SINGAPORE - 4 females and 1 male were arrested on Monday for their suspected involvement in vice activities in a HDB flat at Ang Mo Kio Ave 6.

The police said that on June 2 at about 9.30 pm, officers raided the unit arrested the suspects. The females were between 17 and 26 years old, and had apparently advertised their sexual services online. They were arrested for allegedly providing sexual services in the flat.

The 39-year-old man was arrested for allegedly having commercial sex with a minor under the age of 18.

Cash amounting to $1,024 and other items including mobile phones were seized from the scene.

Investigations against the 5 suspects are ongoing.

Any person who contravenes the offence of keeping, managing or assisting in the management of a brothel under Section 148(1) of the Women's Charter, Chapter 353, is liable on conviction to a fine of up to a maximum of $10,000, or to imprisonment of up to five years, or both.

Any person who obtains for consideration the sexual services of a person, who is under 18 years of age, shall be punished with an imprisonment for a term which may extend to 7 years, or with fine, or with both.

On the surface a vice matter, but it actually is one linked to the rising cost of HDB flats. and misuse of public housing.

Heard more and more cases of HDB flats being fully rented out for purposes of vice.
I strongly suspects they are owned by PR's , (most likely PRC's) who have moved back to China or gone overseas for greener pastures after
milking our system of scholarships, jobs and HDB flats or revoking their son's PR /fleeing before their sons enlistment date.

The rising cost of housing is directly linked to demand by PR's and to allow such public resources to be abused by foreigners is one of the failures of the PAP govt.

The WP should have its ears closer to the ground and grill the PAP on how widespread is this problem, how many(HDB flats rented out for vice/illegal subletting) are owned by PR's and whether their PR's would be revoked and HDB flats confiscated.

I doubt locals have the guts to rent out their HDB for vice knowing the consequences.

I want consistency: either you give equal condemnation to all vices (gambling, drinking, smoking, prostitution), or give them all the same freedom.

Don't pick and choose.

Oh, and it's the Women's Charter again. Can there be a more emasculating piece of legislation? Exactly who or what is it protecting in this case? The prostitutes? The men? The wives of those men? Society? The stellar moral code of Singapore? 'Asian' values?

So what laws will protect teenage boys from selling their body to sugar daddies or sugar mummies?
