It never came to my mind about this. As anyone done this before ?
I checked the price is about $20-30 cheaper than visiting gp with medication ? Sounds too good to be true . Is it effective and what are the usual pre requisites and preparation , if any ? I google but all direct to please visit your gp , not everyone is suitable , I wonder who is not suitable:cool:
Also seems like there are periods e.g. every sep of the year due to change of flu type , does it mean vaccination not available anytime anywhere ?

From personal experience;.....may vary from person to person

1. Effective in the initial stage.

2. If there is new strain of flu virus, need to update

3. Period jab required...can't remember...but my gp will update me when I need another jab.

4. Before jab, make sure no flu, fever etc. i.e. in good general health.

5. In some people, may experience giddiness, flu, fever, muscle ache after the jab, may last for a week or two. But after it passes, it is ok.

6. One of my friend suspects, that his natural immune system went down after the jab.

Effective in initial stage do you mean last for a short period e.g. 3-6 mths ?
It sucks for purpose to prevent flu and get flu with the vaccination as side effects.
So is likely version patch update.
You mean your friend think if never continue to have jab, his natural immune is weaker, I think quite possible since own immune system will relax and lazy.
Not sure should I get one gp never tell me about this before, will think about it, thanks

I have the flu jab annually in autumn. It's effective for the 3 most currently predominant strains of influenza only. It does not offer immunity across the whole flu virus spectrum.

The degree of protection it offers varies from person to person depending on the immune response of the individual. However, those who do catch a strain which is covered by the vaccine will get a milder infection with less severe symptoms even if their immune response was below normal.

No side effects for me except a sore arm for about 48 hours. Some people have allergic reactions to the vaccine. You cannot just leave the clinic straight after the jab. You will be told to hang around for about 20 minutes to ensure that there is no adverse reaction.

A flu jab will not protect you against the common cold virus and bacterial infections of the throat.

Your immune system only gets stronger with training. Forget about vaccination against flu.

Thanks boss that is quite informative.
That is what I suspected if can fight common cold virus then $20-30 is too good to be true, clinic can close shop.
So in short it is not that effective, only 3 upon don't know how many types of virus.

How do you train your immune system ? Even I exercise and take vitamins I still gets it often.

Speaking from own experience;

1. exercise = must sweat a lot.

2. Multi vitamins, some are useless and waste of money because body don't absorb. I took Universal animal pak (one bunch of pills) daily.

3. With above one and two, I didn't get flu when the whole office was having flu and recurring flu, because, they wipe their runny nose with their hands, then touch door nobs etc.

My expat collegues who took the flu jab also kenna bad flu, but not me. So I do not attribute my immunity to the flu jab, but rather, the exercise, multi vitamins and rest.

I learnt from the doctors that, there is no medicine to cure the common cold....all the medicines out there, only provide relief for the cold, hence, they make you sleep, so that, your body naturally tackle the virus...

Flu viruses keep mutating all the time...this season jabs is useless, when the next one comes along...

Ive had it...waste of money. Only handy if youre travelling to the west in flu season.

Better to take care of ur immune system.

I thought antibiotics given at early stage can help to fight the virus before is full blown ?
I thought maybe there are common cold vaccine but researcher kept it so that medical economy will not decrease.

Antibiotics is to stop the infection....once you have a cold, the Ear, Nose & Throat passage gets infected...so it is best to stop the infection, the worse scenario is you get your nose, throat & EARS infected....all starting from a cold...& develop into things worse later...

My good old doctor...is my teacher...I learnt a lot from him...of course I am paying him, 'a pound of flesh' for his consultation fees & medicine... (:-

They use chicken embryo and chicken kidney cell as ingredients for flu vaccine?
Who create these flu virus then in the first place and come up with such solution?

Unless it is very serious, it is better to let your body heal itself. Your immune system gets stronger with practice. Antibiotics make the virus stronger and your body reliant on them.

I had weaned myself off antibiotics and now my cold/flu sessions are rare. When they come, they clear up within two days.

wow you training is commando tekan type. Probably it could be true, usually I start antibiotics immediately upon flu so I had it quite often.

anti-biotics don't fight viruses. they counter bacteria.

vaccines help your body's immune system to counter viruses. some viral strains, such as the common cold, do not have effective vaccines. for the flu virus, which mutate every year (sometimes twice or more a year), your best bet is the flu vaccine for that year. a few variants are usually available end of summer or start of the colder seasons, depending on which strain of the flu virus deemed most viral, nasty, and likely to spread. without the proper vaccine, your body's immune system is no defense for the nastiest flu virus. it mutates constantly because of its diversity and combination of dna material from fowl, swine, and human sources. your immune system without vaccination help can't keep up with flu mutation and is no match for it.

last fall, i had a flu shot and was not affected by the prevalent flu strain going around the world late 2013. in early 2014, there was another flu strain going around in asia, and i was down with it for 2 weeks. the earlier vaccination didn't help. sometimes, you need 2 shots, one in fall and another to counter a new strain in spring.

That's is quite in depth for layman. Thanks for clearing some confusion I always had.
