Dear The Real Singapore,

I came across this blog of a Singapore New Citizen, Runzi Zhang, who is originally from China. She admits openly on her blog that she received "special help" from Lee Hsien Loong to obtain her Singapore PR and subsequently her citizenship.

She also talks about how Lee Kuan Yew helped her to get the Singapore media to interview her about her business and as a result, her company turnover doubled in a year and quadrupled in 2 years.

If this isn't crony capitalism, I don't know what is! Why is Lee Hsien Loong allowed to help his friend get PR and why should Lee Kuan Yew be able to tell local media to interview his friend's business?

She is the founder of some sales business that has an annual turnover of 20 million dollars. If this isn't crony capitalism, I don't know what is. How can our Prime Minister and
Former Prime Minister use their own power and influence to help another person business grow and get PR in Singapore?

I am shocked that the PAP leaders are doing this kind of dirty stuff to help their own friends and possibly family.

This is what she wrote on her ABOUT ME page (Word for Word, I did not edit anything):

I was born in Shanghai and came to Singapore in 1990. Currently, I am living with my husband and 3 kids in Singapore around Hillview. In April 1991, during Mr. Lee Hsien Loong first official visit to China, I am honoured to meet him at Shanghai JC Mandarin Hotel. With his help, within a few months, I obtained my PR status. 3 years later, I became a Singapore Citizen.



My first job in Singapore is a salesperson in Triumph. My first month's salary was only SGD$400. When I left the company about a year later, my basic salary plus commission amounted to more than SGD$3,000 in early 1993.

I then went back to Shanghai to be a housewife.

In late 1996, I brought my 2 children back to Singapore. At the same time, I started door to door sales selling vacuum cleaners. I first started out as a salesperson and later, managed a few companies. On April 2009, during a new immigrant conference, I was honoured to receive compliments from Mr. Lee Kuan Yew, and under his recommendation, various media interviewed me. This gave me a lot of encouragement. My company’s turnover grew from SGD$4 million in 2008; to SGD$8 million in 2009; and to SGD$16 million in 2010; and eventually to SGD$20 million in 2011.

In early 2012, I realized that I had some major internal problems within my company. In mid 2012, my business fell sharply by half and faced major losses. In the defence of my business, like in a "war", I fought with great difficulty and fortunately, within 9 months, my business completely recovered. In 2012, my company’s turnover maintained at SGD$20 million. My initial estimation is that this year, it will increase to more than SGD$30 million . However, I was forced to place my focus on another “war”, and this is more difficult as it isn't in a familiar "battleground". This is a "war" between a salesperson and lawyers.

A famous director once planned to screen write a drama about my life. They told me that my experience can be filmed into an “Ah Xin” type of drama. However, I am only in my 40s and there is a long way to go. I will definitely face more tribulations and also more excitement.

A fortune teller told me that I will have a toiled life and can only semi-retire in my 60s. I hope that when the time comes, I can tour the world with my husband then quietly write a book about my life. Every post in my blog can let my memories slowly string together.

It is nothing to do with cronyism. One of the jobs of any government is to attract talent to the country especially when there is a dire shortage of home grown talent.

LHL was merely doing what any responsible government minister is supposed to do.

John Key, the PM of NZ goes on regular trips abroad. One of his pet projects is to convince the bigwigs in Hollywood to use NZ for their location shoots. This benefits the overseas film industry but it also benefits NZ as it creates employment and attracts foreign investments.

James Cameron is the most high profile film maker to gain PR in NZ as a result of the NZ government wooing these talented people.

I think she is contributing to singapore's economy, creating jobs and probably contributing by paying taxes. That was why she was chosen the be a PR.

Last weekend, I attended the 3-days Malaysian trip with Tampines GRC. On the afternoon of the 8th of March, I suddenly noticed the solemn and sombre mood on Mr Ma Baoshan. It was only then that I knew about the MAS aircraft's incident. It was an honour that Mr Ma had presented me with a book entitled "世界因你而精彩——新加坡海南杰出人物专访" ("Because of you, the world is wonderful - Singapore Hainan Outstanding Review"). In the book, he talked about his most painful and difficult journey of life when the SilkAir crash occurred. At that time, he was the Transport Minister of Singapore.

In all my years I have never heard of the Father and son helping an up and coming Singaporean. That is 49 years of PAP. All I heard was that the father held a man for 32 years and he was a Singaporeans. I also heard that he held couple of others for over 17 years without trial. However in the midst of all this despair I heard a heart-warming story of the general of the Chinese press who was detained and his papers closed down. Upon his release this Chinese turned up at the door of a Malay political detainee and handed over a considerable sum of money to the wife who became a hawker to support her 3 children. He then shortly left the shores of Singapore to start a life in Canada.

And there was a time when LKY branded some Roman Catholics "Marxist" and jailed them for trying to subvert the state using Marxist principles. It was a turning point for me: I became an atheist. Where is divine retribution? If there were, I wish it upon LKY's descendents.

So this is another so called foreign talent who is allowed to thrive in Spore. This is like holiday time share marketing using hard sell tactics. Other than MNC, Spore cannot attract decent businessman to set up shop?

Anyway won't be surprised if LHL did help her. Afterall he did scold Singaporeans to protect foreigners celebrating their national day, so what is so surprising about him helping foreigners in other ways? It is time that Singaporeans wake up from the concept of meritocracy that has been always inculcated in Singaporeans. The truth is showing otherwise.

You can get instant citizenship - no need to be PR - if you are under AStar scholarship. And AStar pays for your education in top universities, provides you with monthly allowances and free flight home annually all the way to post graduate. To enjoy this privilege, the foreigner will have to become sinkapore citizen after first degree and do a 6-year bond after completion of post grad.
So, you can see that there is underreporting of money flowing to foreign students as many of them became instant sinkees.

We have to give this PRC woman credit. She made the most of very narrow windows of opportunity. I suspect LKY and LHL decided to open the gates wider because of their observations of this kind of talent. Very few Singaporeans have this drive. I think even LKY knows his scholar first team can only score when they have an open goal in front. They need an entire establishment to create open goals for them, for example the GRC system.
