We have some real donkeys in parliament now. Remember Kate Spade who never made a single intelligent comments despite so many gaffes being during the hustings. Wong Kan Seng is another. VW is head and shoulders above all of them them and I am more interested in him correcting the mistakes that this govt has made. His article is insightful as he addresses a number of fundamental issues that is now causing us grief.

wtf? is this becumming a gay promotion and defensive thread? with their success these days, they don't need to be defended. gays are brilliant. they are artistic and inspirational. sf will not be the creative hub it is today without the gay community. however, getting shafted in the rear voluntarily vs. involuntarily is a whole different matter altogether. :p

I have no problem with an elected MP who is a gay as long as he's willing to fight for the people..I have no doubt that Vincent would make a good MP..

talking cock in parliament and running a town council plus serving the constituency are different matters. the best public servant does not always have to have the best oratory or farticulation skills. and the language and communication skills used in a parliament setting can be totally irrelevant and inappropriate at the grassroots, walk-throughs, meet-the-mp, ground and street levels. of course, whoever masters both will win hearts and minds.

I am not pro-gay, not pro same sex marriage, because I am rather conservative, but, with respect, it is unreasonable and illogical to exclude or discriminate or to "run down" a talented and patriotic individual simply because he is gay.

If a talented individual, regardless whether he is straight or gay, is able and willing to contribute to the country and citizens, he deserves to be seriously considered and voted to be an MP. We need all the talented individuals that we have. Talent is not limited to those who are in or who join the Pay and Pay Party.

I am not so sure if in a straight fight with PAP, VW can. I will be honest here and tell you that we Asians value loyalty and handwork. Educational qualifications and past positions in an organisation is not so valued in comparison with loyalty and hard work. Li Lian had been there for a long time and contested the seat in the general elections. VW was dropped in for the by elections. SDP does not have the wide appeal as it did under Chiam. Again the issue of loyalty - people cannot forget what they did to Chiam.
