Hate to disappoint you . Many years back, I used to visit a relative at a nursing home, about quarterly. On my first visit next to him, was a very old man - wasted to just skin and bone, curled up like a foetus. He remained motionless and the only sign that he was still alive was the slow regular heaving of his chest. I thought that this old man would not be around by my next visit. To my surprise, he was around after many visits. I was surprised to learn from the nurse that he came to the home in that condition and was there for already 3 years.

For some, it is not so easy to go. It is ok if the family can afford professional caregiver. For those who can't, it is a terrible struggle and experience for the family members taking care of him. Later, I learnt that there are many old folks in the same state . They will not go if you continue to pour milk down on a regular basis. So what if the patient has made a declaration to stop all medical help if his condition is terminal, who will have the heart to stop pouring milk and let him starved to death.
