A woman in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced this week to 150 lashes and eight months in jail for driving and striking police officers who arrested her, news websites in the kingdom have reported.

Women in the conservative country are prohibited from driving.

It appeared that the particularly harsh sentence was handed down because of the charges of resisting arrest and attacking police officers, according to various reports.

There has been no official confirmation of the verdict and the woman's name has not been published.

When women drive, they don't follow traffic rules. They follow their own rules to suit their own perception on how to drive. If you honk them, they get mad and usually resort to crashing their cars into you or they become extremely aggressive.

I think every man and woman should learn how to drive. It is a basic life skill and very empowering. Not being allowed driving means not able to go anywhere in big country and that is why this Saudi Arabia rule is meant to disable the womenfolk from able to do anything by themselves.

Women may have less spatial skills than men but are better if not equally good drivers.

Sure, I may take a bit longer to park but on the roads I am safe, courteous and considerate.

I can't say the same for the majority of drivers on the road, mostly men.
