At the Straits Times Asia News Network Dialogue held at the Istana on Tuesday, PM Lee Hsien Loong was asked, “If you are not Prime Minister tomorrow, will Singapore be all right”? Mr Lee responded, “That is the objective”, to a round of applause.

Later, Mr Lee also added, “”In Singapore, we pay a lot of attention to succession planning and making sure we have a new team ready and new leaders who are capable of taking charge, so that the country can move ahead and the leaders can be in sync with the country.”

Prime Minister Lee is trying to convey the notion that his government has foresight and carries out succession planning in advance to ensure smooth continuity of leadership. However, in recent years, grave doubts have been cast on the ability of the government to have good foresight, to anticipate problems and prepare for the unexpected.

The most obvious symptom of the lack of foresight of Lee Hsien Loong’s administration is the overcrowding that has plagued Singapore and sky high property prices — both of which could have been mitigated or even prevented had the government been endowed with good foresight to anticipate challenges and prepare for them in advance.

In the 2000s, the government opened the floodgates and brought in foreigners in large numbers. The pace of foreign influx accelerated sharply after 2005, and the population grew from 4 million to well over 5 million in just a few short years.

As a result of this large foreign influx, http://www.sgpolitics.net/?p=8683

Great example of the author talking with his ass

Singapore population in 1990 - 3M
2000 - 4M
2010 - 5M

Population growth between 1990 - 2000 as a percentage of total population far outstrips population growth between 2000-2010

Let me stress again. This idiot's succession plan can only work if the 超级白is still in power.

Once we get rid of him and his bunch of cronies, the plan will do down the gutter.

You are the one who is talking out of your ass.

The population increased at a much faster rate when Pinky ascended the throne. Noticed the steeper gradient?

Extrapolate the graph to today... 5.4 million population? You can see that the population growth trend has continued.

It's not the total population, but rather the population density, dumbass. You're squeezing too many people onto a small island. Too many people per unit area of land, seriously straining infrastructure and lowering quality of life. Even at 4 or 4.5 million it was tolerable. Not now.

And childbirth was slowing. So where were the extras coming from? Make a good guess

I think the problem is not just the number of foreigners but the low quality of the people let in. There was totally no quality control and that is why Spore is so messy nowadays and all these happened in the last ten years.

Anyone who thinks.. and says that there is no overcrowding, is either a brainless fool, or one who has not stepped out of their homes and into the MRTs, the shopping malls in neighbourhood.. the eateries.. for almost EVERYONE I know have complained about how crowded it is.

And with the announcement of the frigging white paper.. the pappies want to bring in MORE!! Can we really live comfortably with that many people on this small island? Some may say that we still have land.. yeah.. that may be true.. but where are the ppl going? To undeveloped land or housing districts where there are no eateries or shopping malls? Or to the city or areas where these amenities are located?

On a weekend.. at Tampines or Bedok.. it is ridiculously crowded.. so much so that I'd rather stay near my house.. but since the eateries there are limited.. there is not much choice for food.. but get this.. even my area is crowded.. cos the ppl who don't want to squeeze at Tampines, Bedok or even Pasir Ris.. come to my area!!

pappies must go! It is that simple.

Arsehole came to power in 2004 and these happened immediately:

1) His wife had dinner with QLC at the Chinese restaurant in Temasek Club where she negotiated for her younger brother the CEO post of Hong Leong Credit in KL.

2) Approvals were given to build two casinos where govt gambling tax is the lowest in the world and to employ 95% of foreigners from Philippines, China and India.

3) Flood gate was opened and population shot up from 4m to 5.5m in 2014.

It's so fucking crowded these days I'm reluctant to go out of the house.

Traffic congestion everywhere and the car with ridiculous COE rate and the world's highest road tax is parked at home most of the time.

if you take bus and the MRT to work you lose 1 to 1.5 hours one way. If you take a cab or drive your car, the roads are so jam packed with vehicles (bus lorries, trucks cabs, cars, motorcycles) that you wonder whether time is precious or not. The city just cant take the vehicular load at current population size let alone 6.9 million peoples. You dont have police escort or our-riders to pave your way.

What happened to our planners. Can't they see this !!!!!!

Heard that its takes about 20 minutes from Rochalie Drive to Istana on a normal day. Not too bad. Going back is about 15 minutes.

Singaporeans has been fooled many times by LKY.

What succession? It was designed to place his son as PM and he keeps living at the Istana for life.

Absolute numbers are more impt than %.

A large % increase from a small base is no big deal
- population of 1 increase to 2 in 100%

An already overcrowded situation of 5mil increase by 10% is 500 000 which is unbearable.

not to mention the rise in cases like TB
