British banker plunges to death from roof of Singapore hotel
British banker William Hart has plunged to his death from the roof of a luxury hotel in Singapore.
William Hart fell 30m (100ft) from the seventh-floor rooftop after scaling a metal railing and glass barrier, according to witnesses.
He had been drinking with three other people before the fall, it was claimed.
The 37-year-old’s body was found several hours later after emergency services searched Marina Bay. Almost 200 people were at the bar of the five-star Fullerton Bay Hotel, which boasts breathtaking views, when Mr Hart died on Thursday.
Mr Hart’s father has now flown to Singapore from Hong Kong to collect the body.
Giovanni Viterale, the hotel general manager, told Singapore’s Sunday Times newspaper that Mr Hart was with three other people, one of whom was believed to be a friend from Canada. He claimed Mr Hart, head of sales at the Bank of China International, was not a regular customer and no staff had noticed him climbing over the railing.
The Foreign Office said it was providing help to Mr Hart’s family.
A spokeswoman said: ‘We can confirm the death of a British national in Singapore on April 7.
‘We are in touch with his family and are providing consular assistance.’ It is not known where in Britain Mr Hart came from.
Police have described the case as ‘mysterious’. In a statement, they said: ‘Police received a call informing us that a person is believed to have fallen from height from a building located along Collyer Quay, into the waters of Marina Bay.
‘The body of a male British national was subsequently brought to shore, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Police are investigating.’
