Her late hours are exacerbated by a long and uncomfortable commute. "When I'm on back-to-back shifts, I'll reach home around midnight and have to leave by five in the morning to get to work. But I won't get a seat to rest in the train and moreover, when I'm in my nursing uniform, people expect me to give up my seat. Don't nurses have the right to sit down, too, or are we supposed to stand throughout our journey?"

Patricia's situation stands starkly against the case of Anton Casey, a British wealth manager who ignited the wrath of Singaporeans when he referred to public transport commuters as "poor people". He also posted a status update about washing "the stench of public transport off me" once he had gotten his Porsche back from the workshop. Despite apologising publicly, Casey and his family (he's married to a former Miss Singapore, who went on to become Miss Universe) were forced to leave the country and he was also fired.

To make matters worse they're lovingly referred to as shitskins too.

Double happiness.

Ah Tiong nurses will work 100 hours a week for $1200 salary; that's $3/hr.

that is true, but they are a bit crazy. Taking people from africa and middle east and give them money and house. Can you imagine living in a country doing that? no country can survive an incoming stream numbers of poor uneducated people.

New initiatives = increasing political salaries and ballooning the bureaucracy is it???!!!...

Very soon, we will pay to hire mercenaries to rob other countries... the trend this thinking goes (paying politicians too much for their own good that is)...

Thats where the British welfare system fails big time.. I'm all for helping the poor but not to the extent of giving these people free public housings and giving them too much free money without them slogging hard on a job for years..

It was actually a noble idea of the Govt to help out their poor but too many of them are taking advantage of the generous British welfare system.. And now the citizens from the rest of Europe are flooding the UK to take advantage of the system too..

The British public now demanding that foreign aid money amounting to billions be given to the flood victims instead of giving that money to other countries..

yeah so basically you agree with me, that the people who write guardian a bunch of lunatic.
can you imagine, people from africa and middle east coming to UK, claim they are gay, and in danger in their own country, they get money, house and right to work in UK. Or taliban or rebels in africa claim their life in danger if they are send back, so they want the money, house and right to live and work in UK.
These guardian supporters, think it is perfectly good and jolly well.
UK welfare system sucks, it is better off to have a lot of children and sit at home than working. All in the name of helping the poor.
