Stupid tit for tat: Indonesian author calls Singapore stooge of USA

http://m.republika.co.id/berita/en/...ores-threepoint-agenda-over-ship-naming-issue

Of course the stupidity goes both ways. Singapore side pple say 'Indonesia naming ships after terrorists'

We must be very silly to play into the hands of politicians' games to whip up populist sentiment for their own purpose. Leaders from both side like to portray the other side as harbouring ill intentions and playing up old wounds. The purpose of this is to justify various things like excessive defense spending...to do this you need to demonise the otherside.

The above article claimed that Singapore is a buffer for the US in this region. The narrative in Singapore has been we need to watch our neighbors s the harbour Ill intentions towards us and are not in favor of our success and existence using decades old history as examples. It also say Indonesia should not let its guard down because Singapore is an undemocratic country armed to the teeth.

Relations between countries is like relations between pple. What you believe is what you get. If you believe your next door neighbor is against you and wish ill of your family, you will shape your behavior based on that believe and that generates the kind of respond from your neighbor that justify your beliefs. This type of behavior leads to wasteful arms race, excessive defense spending etc. And the fact is you only need to spend to counter threats and the less your neighbor spends the less you can spend and use the funds to benefit your pple.

Because it is always useful for politicians to demonise to justify defense spending, such issues as the naming of ships is always a good chance for both sides to whip up nationalist sentiments and use by hawkish elements to push throigh defense spending. A citizens we are silly to be the pawns in such games. When the singapore side accuse indonesia of being insenstive, they can ask easily say Singapore is insensitive for hosting an Israeli leader years ago. Even though Singapore has almost no dealing with Israel today, they will use past events to whip anti-singapore sentiment. We as citizens must be wary of the games played by politicians and foster friendly ties at the ground level.....not to allow vicious cycles to form and distrust to deepen.

One good example is Europe. They fought the first and second world war country against country but today they are in Union and despite their differences, the old wounds have healed and they can spend less on defense. In Asia unfortunately things have the opposite direction with an assertive China. But within ASEAN we have to constantly move ahead with greater cooperation reduce the friction between countries. It starts with the ordinary people checking the actions of democratically elected leaders to steer the country to a better outcome.

I beg to differ, we are the lapdogs of China not the US of A

China's lapdog? Where have you been? Why do you think Xi Jinping snubbed Singapore when he visited Indonesia and Malaysia but bypassed us? Or why he didn't meet up with LHL during the recent Bali Apec meetings?

http://theindependent.sg/why-china-president-didnt-visit-singapore/

And at whose expense do you think Pinkie attempted his pathetic stand-up act in Washington? And whose warships are docked in our naval base at Sembawang?

Sheesh. I expected better from IB shills.

</figure>Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong gestures during his meeting with President Barack Obama in the …

WASHINGTON (AP) — Singapore is well-known for its efficiency and order, but during a visit to Washington the city-state's prime minister displayed a less advertised attribute — humor.
<center><iframe id="yom-ad-LREC-iframe" src="http://l.yimg.com/rq/darla/2-6-9/html/r-sf.html" frameborder="no" scrolling="no" allowtransparency="true" hidefocus="true" tabindex="-1" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" style="margin-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: auto; display: block; max-width: none; min-height: 0px; max-height: none; position: absolute; z-index: 10; top: 0px; left: 0px; visibility: inherit; width: 300px; height: 250px; "></iframe></center>

In an after-dinner speech Tuesday to U.S. businessmen, Lee Hsien Loong made a couple of jokes that could pass for stand-up comedy.

He drew laughs — and some groans — with his quips, including one about China's environmental problems.

"Beijing residents joke that to get a free smoke all they have to do is open their windows!" Lee said.

He then alluded to thousands of pig carcasses recently fished from Chinese rivers.

"(In) Shanghai, if you want some pork soup, you just turn on the tap," he said.

His audience appeared doubtful if that was good taste, until he added, "That's their joke, not mine!"

Lee, who met earlier in the day with President Barack Obama, had serious messages in his speech too.

He spoke about the challenges facing China as it emerges from its once-in-a-decade leadership transition, and on the need for the two global powers, the U.S. and China, to get along.

Singapore gets on well with both, and Lee said China, which remains cautious about political reform, looks at his prosperous city-state to try to understand how to balance its economic and social goals as it develops.

With a little deprecation, Lee described Singapore as a "tiny bonsai model" for China to learn from.

Lee is the son of Singapore's founding prime minister, Lee Kwan Yew, who steered the Southeast Asian nation's development for many years while keeping a firm grip on power.

The same party has ruled for the past 50 years, although the political opposition gained ground in national elections in 2011.

Nope. Singapore doesn't have close military links with China.

Imagine you (China) have suddenly won the lottery. Suddenly, someone (Singapore) whom you have not met in a long time wants to be your friend.

That, in a nutshell, is the relationship between Singapore and China.

of course it is a stooge of the usAss , australia , british.
how else would a tiny dot act with such boldness if there
is no backing from the powerful ?
the stooge is beholden to them , so at times it has to
act in their interest like buy unless expensive toys and bankrupted banks.

but we are their friend before they won the lottery ( Deng Xiaoping and LKY ). even the Chinese would thank us for advising them to buy the lottery then.

More trouble making and pot stirring from the m&ds down South. They did the same, throwing tantrums and bichin about Australia aiding the US. What Australia did was the equivalent of brushing the president what's-his-face of Indonesia aside and telling him what Australia does is none of his business. Indonesia spies on others as well. For a country that relies on so much foreign aid from Australia, New Zealand, the US, even tiny Singapore, they sure have a lot of nerve mouthing off to the hands that feed their extremist, illiterate and rubbish hardliners.

Saying Singapore military is a stooge of Pentagon is as accurate as saying SDP is a stooge of the US Democrats. Spot on.

Don't pull SDP into this issue.

If Singapore is not the stooge of USA, then stop spying on its neighbours, stop letting US ships dock at the naval base and refuse US (and Israeli) delegates from booking into Mindef.

Otherwise no one should take offence when Singapore is called an outpost of western imperialist powers.

If Sinkieland is dependent on US as suppliers of spares for your fighter jets and radars, uses their GPS and satellites, their training facilities etc, that means entire SAF will be rendered useless if US wishes to. It means your foreign policy must align with that of USA. That is to say PAP is spending taxpayers money to work for the interests of US in the region.
