Nowhere did I say that all PAP members needed proven track records in running a country. All I said was that they had proven track records of being hardworking and successful.

Let me highlight again what I said :



Show me where I ever mentioned that the track record referred to experience in running a country.

Hardworking and successful people do not join the PAP. They are already successful and wealthy, who needs to join the PAP? They are not interested in politics. If the PAP leadership were interested in money, they'd quit parliament tomorrow and earn many times more elsewhere.

Tharman is a Harvard grad and a highly respected finance minister. He could easily get a job anywhere in the world and earn far more than the peanuts he's getting now.

Specialist doctors like Hen and VB could be earning $250,000 a month easily.

The lawyers in cabinet could all earn between $200,000 to $300,000 per month.

Khaw was the CEO of KK, SGH and NUH before he entered politics. He could be sitting comfortably with a huge salary.

There are many other examples but you should appreciate the fact that so many are willing to forego wealth in order to serve Singaporeans.

At the end of the day, it is for the electorate to decide. If they think a taxi driver can handle the complexities of international politics, they are most welcome to give him a go. I for one would prefer someone with more grey matter.

You do have a point.
Thats why the PAP was given a blank cheque for the past 40 yrs.
However, look what mess a group of 70-80 scholars with great academic credentials (grey matter) sitting in parliament got Spore into in the past 5-10 yrs.
Under the present bunch/system, the grey matter just shuts down.
Thats why more pple are willing to give the alternative a go.

Private sector job = make $$

Much easier spending than making $$
Remember: Gov dont make money; its the private sector that does and supplies the Gov with money to spend through taxes etc...

These are smart people; they know a good deal when they see it.
