PM Lee has been heavily criticised for bringing his wife Ho Ching to an important meeting with the police on Tuesday, 24 December 2013.
The meeting was held over breakfast at Rochor Neighbourhood Police Centre (Rochor NPC). The Prime Minister was there to hear from Home Team officers how they dealt with the Little India riot (8 Dec) and to thank them.
TRE reported on the meeting (‘PM Lee: Social policy rethink can come later‘) where PM Lee said the government-appointed Committee of Inquiry (COI) must first ascertain why the riot occurred, before broader issues of whether social and population policies need to be re-thought can be addressed.
Singaporeans are highly critical of the fact that PM Lee brought his wife Ho Ching along to the meeting. The riot was a very grave matter, so grave it required a COI to be convened. It shocked not just Singaporeans but the whole world. PM Lee should have understood the gravity of the situation and not lugged his wife to the meeting like it was some picnic, netizens felt.
TRE reader She also there? said:
“PM Lee’s wife Ho Ching was also there to listen to first-hand accounts from the police and Singapore Civil Defence Force officers.”
Since Ms Ho is not in the business of politics, I am curious as to in what capacity is she there to “listen”
Another reader Group Think Baboons remarked:
She is bloody free as ceo of temasick? Nowadays just follow her pm husband wherever he goes?
BillyMa asked:
What the heck is ho ching doing at such event??????
lhl is increasingly looking lame & headless.
RDB said in his own inimitable way:
And WHAT HAS THIS GOTTA DO with his WiFee HAH?
So.. was she there as a bedroom backup plan to help her 20 years of lucky apprenticesheep husband “think” of another way out of his many predicaments & nightmares? And to calm his nerves with her presence too!
Thus.. ISN’T IT SHAMEFUL FOR HIM TO HAVE HIS WiFee WITH him there at all HOR?
COMMON SENSE asked if Ho Ching is training to be PM:
Wife starting apprenticeship training for PM?
2 obvious observations did not mince words:
The presence of his wife in such an issue which has nothing to do with her clearly says this LHL has totally no respect to Singapore Constitution to allow a non related person to be present in such a meeting. Whatever his justifications can apply for any Singaporeans to be at the meeting too, won’t it? Is this the typical behaviour of a dictator? The defeaning silence of all the rest of the MIW means all the Pappies’ mouths are already sealed by the obscene salaries they receive.
guah ah said:
just look at the photo, who is chairing the meeting? Dowager or our PM. That the only riot in 40 years happened under the helm of LHL speaks for itself.
Why Ho Ching simply asked:
Why Ho Ching there for???
Really Useless asked:
Why does he bring the man-wife along? Does she hold any political titles?
If you ask him about matters concerning Temasek he will tell you that it is a commercial issue hence he has no jurisdiction.
Mickey Mouse Country offered some advice:
My question to him is “WTF is your wifey doing there?” She should learn to be more like your mother, stayed in the background and quietly helped your father.
Loony Afraid of Social Media was very observant:
What’s the big idea bringing Ho Ching to a police meeting? More comical is her usurping power from Loony by seating at the “chairperson seat” at the far end of the table instead of next to Loony! Just look at the chest-in shoulder-out posture of all the policemen. All are in subservient state ready to give what Loony wants to hear. What facts from the ground?
To netizens, Ho Ching looked like the Empress Dowager of Singapore, seated at the head of the table. Maybe she plonked her ass down in the chairperson’s spot because she is used to sitting there as CEO of Temasek Holdings, which invests Singapore’s reserves.
However, netizens have rightly pointed out that she should not have tagged along to her husband’s meeting with the police. If anyone should have accompanied Mr Lee, it was the Minister for Home Affairs, Teo Chee Hean, as the ministry is responsible for public safety and civil defence.
PM Lee should have told Mrs Lee firmly, “No, I am working.”

Was that more scandalous than bringing Ho Ching to a PAP party event?

She's wearing all-white and also the PAP badge. Is she a PAP member?

Yeah, no conflict of interest. Only in Singapore. :kma:

Disgrace to his cabinet ministers.
Disrespect to SPF and Singaporeans at all.

It is obvious that she is there to chair the meeting.

It could be argued that she brought him there. ;)

This shows how juvenile and brainless a lot of netizens are.

Temasek has many business interests that may be impacted.

It also owns a large chunk of the armed security industry here such as Aetos and would be relevant to hear first hand.

Even if she was there in capacity as PM's wife, so what?

Sure, there are many things I don't like about the way the government does things but the attacks on Ho Ching here are ridiculous

If you want to slime her for losing money on investments, of course that's fair game, but this - this is juvenile

If you guys can recall....lwl always used to tag along with daddy and mummy during lky's official overseas visits....mostly probably freeloading.

Nothing wrong in that.

Obama's daughters also follow on his Air Force 1 in many of his overseas trips.

You peeps are ridiculous

she is actively headhunting for her successor at Temasek Holdings?

the tag team of gecko and gollum was to quell all libido among men. the only one with an erection was the emperor himself. the message was "don't f*ck with the premier family of sg as you'll never rise to the occasion." :p  :o

She has no business being there. No business at all.

She is not a minister, Prime Minister or Home Affairs Minister.
