Two women and two girls were injured after an incident occurred at an underground escalator near Orchard MRT station on Monday evening.

What happened exactly is unclear, but the accident took place at a Land Transport Authority-operated escalator at the end of an underground linkway from the MRT station leading up to the basement level of shopping mall Tangs, according to the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF).

A spokesperson for the agency said it received a call for assistance at 7:36pm, and when paramedics arrived about 12 minutes later, they found four people injured. The victims were then conveyed to hospital accordingly.

One lady in her 40s sustained lacerations on her right eyebrow and both legs, while another woman in her 60s sustained abrasions on her right shin and complained of pain at her right lower back, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old girl was found to have lacerations on her left knee, while an 11-year-old girl sustained a minor abrasion on her left ankle. Both women to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for treatment, and the girls to KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, said the spokesperson.

Yahoo Singapore has contacted the LTA for more information about the incident.

How many of you had used that set of escalators? I have & for many years, never knew it belonged to LTA. First, the escalators are very old, when it was commissioned, say 25 yrs back then, it was not designed to handle the present commuter load, Second, it is very slow & very narrow, Third, it break down quite often. I have on some occasion rode on it & halfway, it stopped, that is why, when I use those escalators, I hang on to the side.

I love the narrow escalators. I sometimes do a set of dips on the way up.

Everyday we hear of some breakdown. One day it is a train, next day the fibre optic network, another day, some escalator...looks like PAP govt only knows how to build but dunno how to maintain...

More like the FAP Traitors are putting SG on autopilot as they are busy grabbing as much as they can before their eventual downfall.

More like they don't want to maintain... cut corners here, cut costs there, try to outsource wherever possible.

Not to worry, this happens once in 50 yrs. The 13 yrs old girl will need to be careful when she turns 63 yo, the lady in 40s don't need to be afraid anymore ..keke

Yes, doing dips on the narrow escalators is always safer than doing push ups. :D
