SINGAPORE: Five people have been sentenced to between six and 22 months jail for cheating Marina Bay Sands (MBS) casino of more than S$200,000.

The five, aged between 40 and 51, had either been friends for a long time or were relatives.

45-year-old Yeo Eng Seng was a dealer at MBS casino in late 2012.

He hatched a plan to cheat the casino in baccarat after finding out from an ex-dealer that he could do so if he memorised the card sequences and relayed them to the other players.

Yeo roped in 44-year-old Ho Keng Guan and 40-year-old Lee Mee Leng – who are husband and wife - to help with the scheme, which was executed in April and May this year.

Subsequently, they asked Ho's brother-in-law, 42-year-old Lim Boon Kwang, and close friend 51-year-old Leow Pui Kee, to join the scam.

For their offences, Yeo and Ho were given jail terms of 22 months each.

Lee was sentenced to 14 months' imprisonment, while Lim and Leow were each given a six-month jail term.

In mitigation, the court heard that Yeo had a gambling addiction and owed money to credit card companies.

Ho and Lee were gamblers and the court was told Lee suffers from health problems.

The court noted that Lim and Leow were not as culpable.

All five have also made full restitution.

Lim and Leow are appealing against their sentences.

Strange that if Yeo can memorise card sequence, his brain should be extra ordinary and should not be working as a casino dealer.

Can some good soul explain to me how this becomes a criminal offence?

I have a friend who has a fantastic memory and he has a computer mind with numbers. He only plays roulette and he wins almost all the time. He told me he can memorise the numbers , the frequency and he can even calculate the odds, the frequency and the chances of a number reappearing.

BUT, overall, he still loses!!!

How can such a fantastic memory be a crime?

How can someone who wins almost all the time, overall still lose ?

In casinos, you can win a 100 times. All you need is just one BIG LOSS. ALL GONE!

You refused to run. You refused to stop. You refused to accept the fact that the machine is not giving. You cannot accept the fact that you will lose in the end. All it needs is JUST ONE TIME. AND ALL YOUR EARNINGS WILL JUST DISAPPEAR PLUS YOUR OWN BANKROLL!

THIS IS THE TRUTH ABOUT GAMBLING!!! THE REFUSAL TO ACCEPT. THE REFUSAL TO STOP[. THE REFUSAL TO RUN. DISBELIEF! MAYBE PRIDE AND EGO! IN THE END, DEATH.
