Clyburn: Obama failed to explain health care promise

Washington (CNN) - The No. 3 House Democrat on Sunday blamed a culture of sound bites for President Barack Obama’s reneged promise that Americans would be able to keep their existing health insurance plans under the Affordable Care Act.

“And this is a sound bite that the President probably needed to take some more time to explain to the American people,” Rep. James Clyburn, D-South Carolina, said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union with Candy Crowley.”

After millions of people received cancellation notices for their health plans, Obama faced considerable pushback over his promise to Americans that the new health care reform would not affect those who are already happy with their insurance policies.

“If you like your health insurance, you can keep it,” Obama repeatedly told Americans when selling his signature piece of legislation.

After that turned out not to be the case, Obama on Thursday announced his administration would allow insurance companies to extend those canceled policies for a year.

Clyburn, the House assistant Democratic leader, said Obama relied too heavily on a sound bite-friendly selling point, rather than spelling out that he was only referring to plans in place before the Affordable Care Act became law in 2010 and hadn’t changed since.

Fact Check: If you liked your health plan, you can keep your health plan

“One of the things in Washington that I dislike more than anything else is when people say to me, ‘If you’re explaining it, you’re losing it.’ I don’t like that at all. I really believe the American people are deserving of explanations,” he said, also blaming the media for not fully explaining the new legislation.

With recent polls showing the President is considered less trustworthy than in the past, Obama on Thursday said he expects he’ll need to regain Americans’ faith after the rocky rollout of HealthCare.gov and his broken promise about existing plans.

Clyburn said he was confident Obama can do so.

“Paradise lost, paradise regained. When you lose something you can find it again,” he said. “The President admitted that he expects to be held responsible for regaining the Americans’ trust, and I think he will.”

the massive health care system is very rich and throwing money at republican which in turn sabotage the system.

it seem that it will probably be a failure, because the system required a lot of young people to buy into the system to subsidize the poor and old.

Look like that is not going to happen. Well obama still have his Nobel peace prize, while he order drone strikes every month. Thank you Oslo for your amazing peace prize.

Democrats and Republicans have been bought over by the various corporate interests. Both sides are sama-sama.

Only 5 percent of the health insurance policies are from the individual markets and most of these policies are useless when the individual is seriously sick as they won't get the coverage needed. In any case, Obama has announced an administrative fix so that his promise can be kept. Look business will in everyway try to sabotage Obamacare. I am not surprise that the failure of healthcare.gov is the work of parties supporting the Republicans.

If Obamacare fails, the progressives should just wash their hands on trying to help the poor, the working and middle class. Let them be screwed by the Republicans.

There are true progressives in the Democratic party. Just that there are conservatives in the party too.

This is what happens when you put a dark skinned man in the white house.

At least this dark skin man has a heart. His predecessor gave him the mess to clean up.

The predecessor was one of the best presidents ever. He was a bit of buffoon in public but his policies were top notch.

Under his watch, more muslim terrorists were annihilated by the US compared to any other time in history.

Everyone should thank George W Bush for taking out these scums so they can no longer harm the rest of us...

George W. Bush Apologizes for Iraq War
Mar 20, 2013

George+W+Bush+Presidential+Library+Under+Construction+FqcrVWda4IplFormer U.S. President George W. Bush apologized for the Iraq War today, saying the conflict was "his biggest mistake."

In a statement released to a Texas newspaper, the 66-year-old Bush said he meant well when he sent America to war but asked the American people to forgive what in retrospect was "a clear example of poor judgement."

The admission comes on the 10th anniversary of the Iraq War, which began in 2003 and ended in 2011 with more than 36,000 American casualties and estimates of more than 100,000 civilian deaths.

"After the events of September the 11th, I focused all my energy on protecting America from the next attack," the statement reads. "Regrettably in our zeal to defend America, my administration exaggerated threats which - although real - did not constitute a clear and present danger to the United States.

"After my presidency I have come to the belief that the Iraq War, although well intentioned, was unnecessary and too costly to justify. I deeply apologize to the American people and to our soldiers and veterans in particular for engaging them in such a conflict.

"I may have made a mistake - but I think all Americans know that I pride myself on being able to admit my failures."
Shock and Awe

Bush also used his statement to address some of the lingering controversies surrounding the war, and showed remarkable honesty and contrition.

"In the run up to the war," he continued, "my administration made claims that turned out not to be factual. Personally, I truly believed that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. But when we couldn't find the evidence, we fabricated it.

"It was wrong to misoverexaggerate the nature of the threat. And although men like Dick Cheney, Paul Wolfowitz and Douglas Feith were the most directly involved, ultimately I was the man at the top and I accept full responsibility.

"Additionally, once we went to war we should have gone in with a detailed plan. I thought it was more important to topple Saddam Hussein quickly than to prepare for the post-occupation. Clearly I was wrong, and I am sorry.

"The entire war was the biggest mistake of my life. I have asked my God for his forgiveness, and now I ask the American people. I hope history records that I was a good person, just trying to do the right thing."

In response to Bush's statement, former Vice President Dick Cheney gave an interview to NewsMax in which he labeled Bush's apology "childish" and defended his actions during the war.

"I still believe that the world is a better place without the tyranny of Saddam Hussein," Cheney said. "It's a shame this cowardly deadender no longer agrees and has joined the Cindy Sheehan wing of the Republican Party."

Surely you don't believe all this false contrition. It's nothing more than a PR exercise. The terrorists killed thousands when they brought down the towers. Bush wanted revenge on the muslim world and Iraq and Afghanistan were his chosen targets.

Good on him for avenging the death of the innocent.

Apparently, he scratches his balls before making decisions like these.
Heard this from an American standup comedian. :p
