A PRC hawker couple was accused of attacking a Singapore family over an extra portion of anchovies at Food Loft along Clementi Ave 3, according to Yahoo news some time ago.

A while ago, I was buying drinks at this small coffeeshop near my home manned by 2 PRCs. I know for a fact that they are PRCs because of their looks and dressing. I noticed that there were 2 PRC workers in my queue before it was my turn and these PRCs were speaking to the staff in their accent and language.

I do know the difference when one speaks Mandarin or Chinese, the Singaporean speaks in a different style compared to these PRCs’ heavy accented version. The 2 PRC staff and their customers seemed to be having a casual conversation, and not even considering that I was waiting in the queue.
However when it came to my turn in the queue, the PRC staff were not accommodating. When I ordered the drinks they didn’t seem to understand English, so I had to repeat myself for the order. I don’t speak Mandarin so had to use English. Suddenly they got angry and slammed down the money I gave them for no apparent reason. I just collected my change and left the place feeling disgusted, I was shocked and their behavior was very rude.

I have not experienced this from Singaporean staff in my life before. I have spent a good number of years in Melbourne and their service mostly manned by Australians was proper and with social etiquette but in Singapore, these foreigners working in the service sector do not have any proper etiquette or social grace. They behave like barbarians and seem to project an image like they are here against their will, make as much money and return home to retire. But who forced them to come here?

More importantly, who let these people into Singapore? Is this the foreign talents they are talking about? They do not seem to have any basic working skills at all, let alone have any talent! Most western countries do have comprehensive training in the hospitality sector to train workers with proper skills even if it is a small service sector business. Their skills are universal and applicable. In Singapore, the opposite is true. Since my return to Singapore I have noticed that people are more inconsiderate and rude especially the foreigners. This is unbecoming of a first world country. Letting in workers who can’t even speak English or at the very least provide a proper service.

Either those in power ruling Singapore are sleeping or they are entirely missing the point of claiming Singapore as a first world country when it’s a contradiction.

Well, isn’t it a fact that we are a laughing stock in the world when they let in foreign workers, pay them very low wages and these people provide a sub-par service?

Hmm cannot speak mandarin so spoke english to the staff. The staff obviously cannot speak english so wouldn't it be dumb to try to speak english to them? I wonder if he tried speaking mandarin or some other language to the staff in australia would they be angry at him for not understanding him?

It's really dumb to try to order from some ppl that don't speak the language you speak and mind you it applies to all races not just china chinese. You see this is the problem with stories like this and this story isn't new. They only somehow have prcs in them but the fact of the matter is there are many ethnic groups in sg that cannot speak english. Some thais in golden mile can only speak thai, same with burmese in peninsula plaza. Same with some shit skins in little india, same with some indons, same with the viets in joo chiat. Now suppose someone went to peninsula plaza and try speaking in some "high class" accented english to the burmese staff ordering drinks and they couldn't speak english at all what would the reaction be? Most likely the burmese staff would have reacted the same way but the most curious thing is that nobody would have complained. In fact if you read stories like these you'll see that somehow the person ordering is a sinkie chinese yes local chinese not from another race and will somehow pretend not to be able to speak chinese or purposely try to speak in english hoping to provoke the prc staff. These chinese locals wouldn't do the same thing to say an india indian seller for example. You wouldn't see an indian sinkie do the same to an india indian. Suppose muthu comes from shitland and doesn't speak english only tamil. His customer say siva a local keling wouldn't attempt to speak to him in english or antagonize him if he couldn't speak tamil. He would try some way to communicate to muthu from shitland what he wanted to order.

This is a very interesting observation.

PRC should be back in China not SG!! we don't need them bastard!
