It takes a lot more skill to make an ocean crossing in a sampan compared to a cruise ship. That is why it is necessary to pay big bucks for a top notch crew.

But it takes a crew of confused navigators in a sampan to sink it FASTER than the crew on a cruise ship to run it aground, unless you are that Italian Captain..who wants to wave at the people on the coast line.

The crew & and their support staff occupies 99% of the sampan, no wonder, some day it list on the port side & some day on the starboard side & someday it takes in water & pond & sink below the plimsoll line ( ha ha ha) & the the 1% are without a life jacket...

A sampan is never going to be ocean worthy. It takes a lot of convincing of Singaporeans to convince them that the sampan is "bestest" in the world. It is why Anderson Consulting always tell us to "walking on water"
It was a miracle, economic miracle that is no longer working because we figured out that whether it is Japan export model or the 4 Asian tigers, the miracle is nothing more than what China experience for the past decade before 2008.
