Dear Brothers and Sisters,
I want to buy a new DVD player as the old one has no blu ray.
I want to know if the DVD player in Singapore supports region 1 2 3 4 5... etc so that I can watch all kinds of dvd that I buys from amazon? please advise.

You can go Sim Lim square to get your answers.

When I bought my DVD played I made sure to select a model where the region code could be turned off. In these model the saleperson can type in a sequence of keys to turn off region code checking. However be aware that some DVDs may have a problem playing if there is no region checking.

Or just buy those cheap chinese brands which probably don't do any region checking.

Many branded brands i.e. Japanese brands offer the ability to turn off regional coding. These companies really want to sell you their DVD players, but they can't openly advertise this capability because they will get into legal problems with the movie companies.

I know it can be done with DVD players but don't know about Blue ray players. I haven't upgraded to Blue ray because I have a large collection of DVDs & it would expensive to replace them in Blue ray format. I also read that they will be remastering the titles to better take advantage of 4K TVs.

Don't know because I haven't found a need to upgrade yet from DVD. May upgrade when I get a 4K TV but that is probably 2 years away.
