No, I didn't go St Petersburg but heard from a friend who went both that St Petersburg is nicer and more interesting than Moscow.

Yeah, if you go to St Petersburg these days, you can see the hulk, but if you go to Moscow, you can only drive a honda.

Russian language is really exotic, I only remember nyet as it was used quite often. Most can't speak English well at that time but there was one Russian lady who was very good in English and she shared with me that people are often surprised when she translated a Russian letter into English, that it becomes so short and people will say is that all and whether she missed out anything..
