One year wait for specialist at public hospital.....

if some serious condition is disclosed in the scan at the private specialist, can the patient downgrade back to C or B class for treatment? or is the patient stuck as a private patient (A class?)

Down grade your fuck.

Once you entered PRIVATE it's PTE all the way or you go back to the end of the queue to start at the Poly clinics and wait long long.

Which is just as well, Sinkie like you will just die before they see any specialist and that itself would have solved the initial problem anyway! LOL

When your case is transfer from private, it stays private. You have to file an appeal through the medical social worker. If you stay in certain type of housing or have certain level of household income or have money in the bank, downgrade may be disallowed.

The system is such that if you can pay $500 for a private specialist, it is taken that you can also pay $100K for the private treatment....until all your finances is drained. Such is the stupidity of the system...and a person with $10M can go for class C so long as he is willing to queue.

go Malaysia as an alternative ?

Kidney dialysis at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur
There are two main forms of kidney dialysis: hemodialysis and periteneal dialysis.

Haemodialysis is the most common treatment for kidney failure and has been in regular use since the 1960s. The process takes about four to five hours during which the patient usually lies on a couch or sits in a chair while connected to the kidney dialysis machine in the hospital.

Peritoneal dialysis has been a practical treatment since the 1980s, and is now a common treatment for kidney failure patients. It is a very practical type of of home kidney dialysis. Peritoneal dialysis takes advantage of the peritoneal membrane surrounding the intestine being a natural semi-permeable membrane. Dialysis fluid is introduced to the abdominal cavity, where waste products transfer through the peritoneal membrane into the fluid, thus doing the work normally done by the kidneys. On draining the abdomen, the waste is removed.

You are a pretty confused person and regretfully you will remain so for the rest of your life.

For medical issue one cannot go for Class C and it NOT becos of only the queue.

Unlike what your PAP master have been telling you, Class C and subsidised patient are NOT entitled to those top skilled specialist who would spend their time with such ppl.

Of course, why not? Even the specialist themselves are money faced and they get paid their dues in seeing PTE patient.

Of course, they ( the high end specialists) might take 'a few of such patients' but most of the lot goes to specialists who 'would definitely make mistakes and do try outs with your life'.

And why not again?

Cos to the PAP and the top skilled specialists, poor and balless Sinkie are not 'worth to save' literally! LOL

Although the quality of these treatment in Malaysia is much higher and cheaper,
we always hope that public hospitals can level up so that we get treatment in Singapore -
in case we die at least we can die on the land we are born.

Hey these are Malaysian PRIVATE hospitals where the surgeons and specialists are the cream of the Malaysian Chinese students. In Singapore public hospital now depending on your luck - you can be treated by phillippines, PRC and Indian doctors.

Whether you think this is higher quality or not is up to you but other Singaporeans are going to these private hospitals in fairly large numbers.

they should make the downgrade process more transparent. in fact allowing downgrades is good. for those who don't think they can wait 6-12 months for an appointment, they can get checked at a private hospital. if there is a serious condition, they should be allowed to go back to the polyclinic/GP for an urgent referral to a public hospital specialist.

I wonder how our one year wait compared to hong kong's medical care system. Anyone here any idea?

we should seek clarifications and details of each individual case
it is very easy to blame the system
everyone will tell you a different story
my friends and i have no problems with our great healthcare system

my neighbour's mother got a breast lump. she was seen by her GP who then refered her to the OPD who then sent her to the Specialist Clinic in hospital and within a week, her breast lump was removed - uneventful recovery. superfast and super efficient. she is eternally grateful to our world class healthcare system.

my friend fell down and had a concussion of his head. he went to the ER. and he got everything done including a brain scan. he paid subsidised rate and he recovered completely well.no complaints.nothing but compliments to the staff and the hospital who treated him.

we only read one side of the story. there are many other grateful patients who admire our world class healthcare system.

and if you have the money, you can have all your systems checked the same day. if you were discovered to have anything wrong, it can be corrected immediately...

there is no need to complain about this and that. it's a matter of priority. if your case is urgent, you will be treated urgently. if your case is a non urgent case, you can afford to wait. let those urgent cases be treated first. it's medical priority. if you are confirmed cancer of the colon, the hospital will operate on you immediately, A or C class does not matter. If you have a blood clot, you will be operated upon immdiately, A class or C class does not matter.

It's a matter of medical priority and urgency. There is no need to lambast the whole system just because of some compliants...And there is also no need to politicize such a social issue. We must have all the facts before we comment on anything. We cannot just blow our top and always blame the system and the government. Don' t you all agree? Do I make any sense? Thank you.:)

You see that is why I said you are a confused person and now I have added 'useless and hopeless' too.

If you HAVE the money and that is a 'if' in your case, you will be wise to know HOW to pick and choose the correct specialist for your need.

And if that was so, why would the FTs be they Filos or whatever bother you.

Those useless kind of specialists can serve the poorer balless Sinkie, right?

Just like the Old Bastard himself, he sure know who he needs, to care for his needs to reach 90.

So don't say I say lah, No money to cough up to PRIVATE rate, just say so! LOLOLOL

the same in all first world countries public health care. maybe with exception of france.

That's not true. If you your case is serious, your appointment is expedited.

You either manage resources with condition or with cash. Sinkapore chose to let the money talks.

A very weak attempt to defend a system that worships money.

The letter below was from therealsingapore.com

This situation is now quite common for certain types of specialists due to the hospital differentiation of patients. If you're are willing to pay as a private patient, the waiting time is very short even if you have a skin problem that can probably wait. However, if you are too poor and need subsidised care, they will make you wait even though it is more urgent.

A reply to this letter by Angel Yap explained that her father suspected of cancer was asked to wait for 3 months to see a specialist. For cancer cases, the cancer can spread and go from stage I to III within months and early diagnosis is the difference between life and death. To save his life, the family went to a private hospital which is not possible for those who are poorer.

My neighbor once had severe joint pain and was given specialist letter by polyclinic. Quite serious doctor suspect bone cancer or joint infection. Neighbor does not speak English only Hokkien so ask me to make appointment for her at public hospital. This was the conversation:

ME : Hello, I want to make appointment for orthopedic specialist for a patient.
Operator : You're calling as private patient or subsidised patient.
ME : Class C patient.
Operator : Okay earliest 6 months time...in Aug.
ME: I never tell you her problem, how you know she can wait so long.
Operator : If you want earlier appointment, you have to come in as private patient.
ME: This is ridiculous, if cannot afford how?
Operator: Sorry sir, if you want earlier appointment, come as private patient.
ME: ...I need to check with patient to see if can afford....
<<<Hang up>>>

The neighbor said she very scare of high hospital bills and went to see Chinese sinseh instead luckily her problem went away...if something more serious most likely she might lose her life.

http://www.therealsingapore.com/content/one-year-wait-see-specialist

My husband has been seeing a general practitioner (GP) at Tampines Polyclinic for several years.

In early August, the GP decided my husband needed to see a renal specialist as a blood test showed that his condition was worsening.

We were shocked, however, to find out that the appointment date given by the Singapore General Hospital (SGH) was December next year.

After I called several times to plead and complain, it was moved up to August next year. Why does my husband have to wait nearly a year for his appointment?

Who is responsible if something happens to him in the meantime? Are our hospital staff so overworked that appointments have to be scheduled over a year in advance?

The SGH feedback department claimed that the reason for such a late date was that the GP did not request an urgent appointment.

Isn't it urgent enough if the GP decides that my husband needs to see a specialist and do a scan of his kidneys?

Surely polyclinics do not send patients to specialists for no good reason. This would be a first-time investigative check, and patients would worry over whether or not there is anything wrong with them.

Just because patients like my husband do not complain does not mean they are okay. The health authorities should appreciate such patients and not penalise them by putting them at the back of the queue.

Tay Soh Hoon (Ms)
this Tay Soh Hoon is contradicting herself. by writing to the press , isn't she whining like the rest. Get real. obviously one of those arrogant but ignorant type. the situation is the same everywhere even in USA, HK, Europe. In UK it is even worse. probbaly wait 1-2 year for treatment. Do they complain? teh answer is NO!!!! I know as I stayed there for a couple of years.
for commoners like her you can't have it all. want a welfare state, then pay more taxes(still generate more complains) and even then you still wait 1 year like in UK. if the waiting time for paying and public is the same, thenwho the hell would pay more for private? such simple logic for such whiners defy explanations. Like asking why Flying first class should pay more than flying economy or why budget airlines tickets are cheap in the first place. such things also neeed to explain to people like her. too many immature people out there who thinks the whole world revolves round them. like the COE saga. no money then don't drive. no wonder the system is designed to weed out unproductive whiners like her. I hate it when people ask stupid questions like who is responsible if something happens? the answer is that you are responsible for your own health by not working hard enough, not garmen. as for me I just pay for private health care. whining is for losers. this place wouklld end up like UK once the great LKY is gone.

If Ms Tay Soh Hoon would cough up PRIVATE RATES at 're-structured' hospitals she would not only be given a specialists appointment within 1 WEEK..

She will even have a choice of which specialist she wants to see..

and be served with coffee, tea or Milo in a cosy 5 star environment when she visit that specialist!

So if the Sinkie do not have that sort of money to splurge on their medical problems..

the PAP will tell balless Sinkie of these types, who want subsidised treatment to ..

FUCK OFF and stop complaining!

No money, no see doctor, you see OPD oops! Poly Clinic..my time, it was Out Patient Dispensary...prepare to see Ang yew Seng, when you have something that you need to take care of immediately or ASAP..so, be prepared, have medical insurance, have medisave, have medishield...& HAVE MONEY. You have $$$$, you see any specialist, as & when they are available, have a choice from Registrar, consultant, visiting consultant...$$$$ dictate your medical care..that is harsh reality of life...don't get cheated with their AFFORDABILITY CHANT & their slant that all wards are EQUAL.

From the lessons we learn from the letter to the press etc, if you are applying for medicare..make sure you withdraw all your money from all your bank account..to $200 or less, if they want to see your bank balances... ha ha ha

bro,
corrections, the boner is mere spongy tissue with lots of capillaries for the blood to fill :p

but Khaw say heart bypass on cost $8...

In SGH, there are wards for VVIP. Treatment is cheap as extolled by KBW. The specialist is top notch. Most importantly, there is no waiting list.

in every society, there are special privileges for their leaders and top honchos
this is nothing dirty, unfair or unethical
these are the people who make decisions that will influence the destiny of a country
they should be given the best treatment possible
i do not grudge such privileges - they all deserve the special treatment accorded to them
