SINGAPORE: Two women, aged 22 and 25, have been arrested for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities in two separate cases.

The 25-year-old suspect was arrested near Hougang Ave 3 on Wednesday afternoon.

Investigators showed that she was a debtor-turned-assistor.

She had given away her Automated Teller Machine (ATM) cards and Personal Identification Numbers (PINs) to loansharks to facilitate their businesses.

The 22-year-old woman was arrested near Bukit Batok East Avenue 4 on Wednesday night.

She was a debtor-turned-runner.

Police said she procured ATM cards from debtors and gave away her ATM cards and PINs to the loansharks to facilitate their businesses.

Investigations against both suspects are on-going.

If found guilty, each may be fined between S$30,000 and S$300,000, be jailed for up to four years, and be given up to six strokes of the cane. - CNA/ms
