Is it true that both Chai Yingwen and Hau Lungpin were both given ministar's posts when their respective parties were the opposition in Taiwan?

PAP has better make the PA and other so called government bodies appoint elected Opp MPs as their advisors so that they can represent their constituents in these decision making bodies. Chai Yingwen is non-partisan when she joined the KMT's cabinet. Hau Lungpin is from the minor party New Party when he joined the DPP's cabinet. think he was an environment minister ? many KMT supporters were furious with Hau for accepting the ministerial appointment then.

anyway. a Presidential system would often have ministers from the non-partisan and non-ruling parties. this occurrence is quite rare in a parliamentary system.

All I am saying is that if the PAP truely wants to unite the widening chasms in the two fractions, it got to make this move. No more symbolic gestures or political grandstanding. It got to treat WP as a partner. Maybe it can offer LTK a minister post or something. It's quite common in other countries. We should follow too.

Thanks for the info. Didn't realise that they were not from DPP and KMT when they accepted those appointments.
Hau was either environment or something to do with health sciences or pharmacy, since he was a science graduate.

In SG, if the opposition ever formed the government and the system was changed, imho the only ministar they ought to try and recruit from pappies is Tharman.
The rest especially Toothpick can all go join the private sector or retire.

In any case, with a huge and well paid educated civil service in place, their jobs are not that difficult.
There is no such thing as indispensable or "heavyweight" ministar. That is a myth to scare fools.

what is likely to happen is that the ex-judges will serve the new WP government's interests so WP will not prosecute them. LTK will insert his cronies in Temasek and other GLCs. some things will change for the better of course. some things will never change. we have to accept it. don't expect too much of WP or any other opposition parties if they come into power. the less the hope, the less the disappointment.

I didn't vote to have a PAP-lite government! So WP either buck up or face a revolution.
WP's support for the million dollar salary was a big disappointment. I hope that they will change their stance before the next election.
