SINGAPORE: A Member of Parliament for Chua Chu Kang GRC, Zaqy Mohamed, has taken issue with an article published by The Real Singapore website about the Chua Chu Kang Town Council's management of a fall incident.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mr Zaqy said the article makes serious allegations about him and the integrity of the Town Council General Manager about the replacement of staircase railings.

He added that the accusations published are false and border on defamation.

Thus, Mr Zaqy has asked The Real Singapore website to show proof to back up the article within the next 24 hours. If it is unable to do so, he calls on the website to remove the post and apologise for having published false information.

The issue in question is a posting on the website by Ms Serene Tham about an incident at Block 293, Chua Chu Kang Avenue 3, two months ago.

Ms Tham said that she had fallen down in the area due to the poor management of the staircase and ended up being injured badly.

Mr Zaqy said the matter is currently undergoing investigations for an insurance claim and he is urging all parties to respect the legal process. He added that he would have expected The Real Singapore webiste administrator to know that during such a time, disclosure of facts would be prejudicial to the parties involved.

Mr Zaqy stressed that the article contributor, Ms Serene Tham, has personal interests as she is the one claiming insurance in this case.

Responding to Mr Zaqy's call, the website said it is not the one making the allegations as it is a platform to allow average Singaporeans to voice their concerns.

The barriers were put there for the very purpose of preventing cyclists from using the path. The council should congratulated for coming up with a barrier which effectively exterminated the problem one cyclist at a time.

Let me guess, 超级白going to sue again?

Another question, who did Serene Tham vote for?

There's such a thing as making the legal process as complicated and cumbersome and financial prohibitive for people to make a claim. Zaqy also have vested interest in that he won't want to admit liabilities so he want the insurer and the media to take his views and downplay the victim's claims so their liabilities r minimized. That's why we need the Internet to let these people have a voice.

You obviously did not read the news of that accident before you commented, Yes! the barrier purpose, we all knew. It seems that the barrier was erected without a warning sign, or informing the residents of it or the resident did not bother, too busy or what so ever...the cyclist regular path..there was not a barrier there at all the day before, the week before, the year before, the century before...suddenly barreling down the path hit the barrier & thus the accident..

Whose fault?? must the cyclist fault...

Rare to see you making such a mistake.

Good one, bro! Typical of Leongsam to come to the immediate defense of his PAP political masters without knowing the specifics. He's far away in NZ so what the fuck does he know about actual happenings in S'pore.

it's the cyclist's fault for barreling down recklessly and not seeing what's in front of him. what if he were to bang into you, with you being a temporary walking barrier? barriers on roads, bike paths and junctions come up and down on a daily basis. often, there are no early warning signs. for example, the shared narrow bike and walk path under the golden gate bridge can be partially blocked off by a temporary barrier due to water seepage from the bridge above. due to water on the path, slippery conditions can be fatal to cyclists when they expect fully dry conditions in summer. pedestrians have to gingerly navigate past the barrier. but many cyclists will just barrel thru' without slowing down or warning pedestrians of their approach. accidents happen. can't blame the authorities. damned if they do, damned if they don't.

The human species has survived because humans, along with most other living organisms have what are called "senses".

Since the dawn of man, landscapes have been littered with hazardous objects both living and inert. These landscapes aren't static. They change form day to day. A landslide would move the position of a cliff edge. Shifting sands would open up a deep chasm which was not there before.

There were no warning signs. Eyes, ears, nose and touch helped humans work out what was safe and what was not.

Those who could not spot the dangers died. That's how the gene pool improved as those that survived and procreated had senses that were more acute than those that fell off a cliff because they didn't realise it was there.

Cyclists need to be able to see what's in front of them without having to be guided by warning signs in the form of council notices, flashing lights, brightly painted surfaces etc.. If they can't they deserve to be eliminated.

The problem with all these damned sinkies is that they've been so thoroughly spoilt by the PAP over the last 5 decades that they now expect zero risks in their lives, a constant supply of high paying low stress jobs, a cradle to grave health care system FOC and a swanky roof over their heads for a song.

What they need is a good dose of Worker Party mismanagement and incompetence. One term will do the trick. After 5 years, they'll be pleading for Uncle Lee to return to lead them.

My cycling buddy was HIT FROM BEHIND! He never stood a chance. He kept to the left. He was riding single file. He was not overtaking any vehicle or object.:oIo:
