Air-con serviceman nabbed for housebreaking

SINGAPORE - A 44-year-old man was arrested by the police today for committing a break-in at a residential unit in Compassvale Walk.
On June 26, watches valued at about $13,000 were reported to be missing from the victim's bedroom, which she discovered when she went back to her home. The victim also noticed tampering marks at the common corridor window.
After conducting inquiries, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division established that the suspect was an air-con serviceman who had previously serviced the victim's air-conditioners. The suspect was arrested in the vicinity of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 9 at 2.30 pm on Friday.
The suspect will be charged in Court 26 on 13 July 2013 for an offence of Housebreaking and Theft by Night (Enhanced Punishment) under Section 458A of the Penal Code Chapter 224 which carries a maximum of 14 years' imprisonment with caning.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San advised residents to properly secure their windows and doors before leaving home or retiring to bed.
