Malaysia Boleh! First Malaysian awarded British Knighthood

Any contradiction to what I said? GCMG is a knighthood. Any British citizen conferred a GCMG can be addressed as a Sir.

Does that specifically say it?

LKY is not a Brit.

GCMG is for Commonwealth members mainly.

Actually we do have a Singaporean who was made a British Lord and sat in the House of Lords. He was Dr Michael C K Chan formerly of Raffles Institution, class of 1955. He was in KK Hospital before leaving to UK. He was my friend and school mate. He was given a lordship for his social work in UK was known a Lord Chan of ... (sorry I forget what county).

So sad and sorry that he passed away just a few years after he attended a reunion with us in 2001 at the Island Golf Club.

In our time being a Lord was totally out of the question!

Lord is not the same as a knight

Everyone who was invested as a knight/knight commander/knight grand cross is a knight, no matter which order (order of the British empire, order of the thistle, order of....etc) it is.

LKY is not a Brit, hence he is not entitled to be addressed as a "Sir". Foreigners can be made honorary members of the orders.

Maybe. But actually beyond Wikipedia, is there any official document that says he still holds the GCMG
