SINGAPORE investment firm Temasek Holdings saw its portfolio hit a new record last year, lifted by strong stock markets in Asia.

Its portfolio rose by 8.6 per cent over last year to hit a fresh peak of $215 billion as at March 31 this year, Temasek said on Thursday.

Asian equity markets rose strongly from the middle of last year to the first three months of this year, but have since fallen due to concerns over rising interest rates and the tightening of central banks' loose monetary policies.

Temasek will continue to stay focused in Asia and the emerging markets but will look at opportunities in the developed markets, said chairman S. Dhanabalan.

That's money added in from your CPF...not gains lah.

Did they factor in the losses?
Many investments can be recorded at book value if deemed long term investments, especially for non-publicly traded instruments. So if they say the stake is worth $10bn, it is booked as $10bn until the day they decide to relook at "fair value". The oldest trick for all banks.

Portfolio rose by 8.6% means real gain due to stock price went up or just bigger portfolio due to put in more $$ investment? if really gain , can pay us higher than 2.5% cpf interest now?

For investment companies a better gauge of performance is the change in net asset value ( excluding infusion of new cash/capital ) ....profit/loss figures are just accounting numbers.

They can't pay you any higher because CPF is really insolvent.

That's why im a simpleton.. so all is rosy then..

Temasick has been reported to be holding approximately $150-180B for the last ten years at least. They boast incredible yearly gains but now claim to hold $215B. The truth is that they never tell the truth and if one looks at their staggering list of huge losses coupled with capital gains from the sale of large state-owned companies then this Temasick is an incredible failure.

Madam Ho Ching certainly knows how to pick the winners. Considering the fact that the market has been challenging over the last few years, she certainly has done a superb job of increasing the wealth of all Singaporeans.

Kudos for a job well done.
