since they are paid a full salary even during studies.......

Blame them for retiring him so early. Age of retirement for officers is suppose to be 50

At university
Fees, books and accommodation for 4 years at Ivy League school - $750k
Stipend, clothing allowances, flights home for 4 years - $250k

Career
First 2 years @ 10k per month (include bonus & CPF - 16 months) - 360k
Next 3 years @ 20k per month (include bonus & CPF - 20 months per year) - 1.36 million
Next 5 years @ 30k per month (include bonus & CPF - 25 months per year) - 4.24 million
Until retirement, 35 years @ $1.3 million annually ....$45.5 millions

Cost to taxpayers for a scholar = $52 million!

A SAFOS LTA's salary is higher than a regular non scholar CPT.
I wished I had saved that salary chart.

LTA about $600 pee month
CPT about $800

I am not sure about the present,
but in the past, scholars are paid in SGD, but there may be an allowance depending on the country.

There is also an overseas allowance.
Similar to those regulars and NS posted to overseas.
This component varies from country to country but usually can be quite a bit. Those who are not spendthrift can survive on this allowance alone. Allowances are bank into overseas bank in local currency. Salary credit in SGD but scholar can request the salary or part of it to be credited overseas with his allowances.
