Quiet diplomacy is not helping but Australian Foreign minister said that Australian Chinese jailed in China still get better consular access, compared to many other countries including USA.

The stories of Oz businesspeople jailed in China is that the Chinese give preferential treatment to non-Chinese Australians.

For Chinese Australians, including those from Singapore/Malaysia, the Chinese kangaroo court system consider China-borned as PRC citizens (even when they have given up PRC citizenship) and Nanyang Chinese as Overseas Chinese. So, the punishment for them is often without trial or lawyers and with tougher sentences.

More and more disputes between business partners - esp local government officials - are causing Chinese Australians to be jailed. The reasons range from the local government officials wanting to eat up successful enterprises by jailing the foreign partners to foreigners breaking the golden rule of doing business in China - messing around with state-owned enterprises.

PRC economy is slowing and with more and more fresh graduates unemployed. Its economy is set to bailing out the SOEs and other protected species, the question is how long can China play this game.

On the outside, everything is Problem Not Big.
But the banks are doing the heavy lifting.

Been reading Gordon Chang a long time, since his book "The Coming Collapse of China" some of his predictions have come true, others have not. I like his recent descriptions of the recent transition of power to equate to nothing more than a Jiang Zemin takeover so reform seems to be out.

As Chang is the Forbes China Bear its resident China Bull is Kenneth Rapoza then over at Caixin they have Andy Xie.

Watching China with great interest.

You see the same problems with Singapore.

Singaporeans are highly educated "technically speaking" but still lack the ability to advanced further because of the way the system is structured.

Australia has not gone the same way as USSR only because thankfully, there are still some first-rate people around.

Expand my writing on this.

I will take Friday to further my take on China, and indirectly, Singapore.

Advanced complex development of a country require political systems that are sophisticated and participatory. It is more than just hurling out simplistic slogans and campaigns.

As illiterate peasants and coolies evolve to educated PMETs who have experienced Western political systems and lifestyles, it becomes untenable to suggest that "We know better" and that democracy is inferior to dictatorship.

Democracy is far from perfect but it is organically more suitable to educated masses compared to dictatorship.
Southern China - Guangdong govt is more enlightened in its practice of "democracy" compared to the north.

No doubt China will have to find a democratic system that is suitable for its unique circumstances, no matter how rudimentary, but it must at least allow the people to feel that they have a voice in the government of China. Travelling to Beijing to petition the central government is a throwback to the imperial times. It is a backward system and seldom work.


Imperial times.
Speaking of imperial times, the current CCP government is no difference from its imperial days.
Their principle followed the past, 中學為體，西學為用. (Chinese learning as Substance and Western learning as Function) It has never worked in Imperial China (remember what happened, Opium and Hong Kong/Shanghai/Amoy, etc) and it will not work today.

The government is authoritarian, ruthless and corrupt, just like in imperial China.

Like Singapore PAP, the Chinese CCP power rest on the mandate of Heaven, that there be continuous promises of prosperity for the people, along with close security monitoring by annoying security apparatus to weed out trouble makers, hatred of Japan and the West, the promotion of nationalist sentiment and instilling fear into the people.

China has few real friends, it hates to be inferior technically and culturally, anything that make it lose face, such as outsiders imposing their wills on China (Lee Kuan Yew learnt this the hard way)

Inside China, it is a mass of the urban educated voiceless restless exposed to the western world, a deprived poor rural with simmering anger ar the provincial governments and unresolved food scares and fakes.

China has never feel so naked in power before as its economic power means that it needs resources from other countries to function and this also expose more of its vulnerability.
