type 2 diabetes must injection own self every day or not?

In the early stages, the patient with Type 2 diabetes take one 500 mg tablet of Co-metformin with breakfast, and one tablet with dinner.
Co-metformin has been around for decades, and is reasonably cheap, about US$35 for 300 tablets.
I believe that in the past 2 to 3 years, medical doctors have recommended one 100mg tablet of Sitagliptin (trade name: Januvia, by Merck) at lunch.
This drug is more expensive, about US$3 a tablet.

When the patient is not steady or improving, the medical doctor may increase the dosage to two 500mg tablets of Co-metformin.

suggestions: eat less rice and less potatoes and less noodles
consider boiling oat flakes (not the quick one minute oats) for breakfast, and when ready to eat, add some cinnamon to the oat porridge
consider snacking on ten to twenty unsalted roasted or natural almonds to control blood glucose

Buy a good bike and start pedaling. 1 hour a day 5 days a week and your type 2 diabetes will be history.

50% of the old farts in my cycling group took up cycling in their 40s and 50s because they were diagnosed with Diabetes. Exercise alone has has restored their health. They aren't taking any medication whatsoever.

Only 1 diabetic cyclist stills need to take his pills despite the exercise regime. The doctor told him that if it wasn't for the exercise, he'd probably need injections.

Good suggestion for that individual who asked the question.

I believe that you mean "pedalling" a bicycle
rather than peddling (as in peddling cocaine?)

Fixed.... ;)

The additional benefits are lower blood pressure and cholesterol readings, a better night's sleep and a much better looking body. You won't see a regular cyclist with beer belly. The additional kilos simply melt away.

With proper exercise, you're also at liberty to enjoy food again. You don't have to hold back.

Culprit could be the high fructose corn syrup. N also the fatty foods n huge portions.

i'm sitting here in denver sipping latté, and in quick sample after sample watching heartland americans walking up and down (to their automobiles), i can be quite certain that 6 out of 10 are overweight. the sample average is between 6 and 7. when i first arrived decades earlier, it wasn't so bad. wtf has happened?! even coloradians are becoming fat. folks in the mile high state are supposed to be the fittest and sportiest of them all, with so many outdoor activities for fun and leisure. there's some f*cking shit that got into the food chain since the mid 70's.

Wheat (bread, confectionery, pasta, pizza, noodles) and dairy products (milk and cheese) are the biggest culprits.

go for low Glycemic index food, food that turn to sugar at slower rate

Problem probably caused by the combination of high fructose syrup, genetically modified wheat, refined foods, engineered oils, preservatives, .......etc. The americans are the biggest culprits. They started messing around with the food supply chain & unfortunately we are all paying the price.

One of the cheapest place to get metformin is probably in Thailand. It is even cheaper than Malaysia. In both these countries you don't need a prescription and can pick it up at any Boots Drugstore or any pharmacy.

If I remember, a strip of 850mg tablets(10 tablets) cost under 50 baht. That's less than SIN$3.

Vegan diet reverses diabetes symptoms, study finds

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - People who ate a low-fat vegan diet, cutting out all meat and dairy, lowered their blood sugar more and lost more weight than people on a standard American Diabetes Association diet, researchers said on Thursday.

They lowered their cholesterol more and ended up with better kidney function, according to the report published in Diabetes Care, a journal published by the American Diabetes Association.

Participants said the vegan diet was easier to follow than most because they did not measure portions or count calories. Three of the vegan dieters dropped out of the study, compared to eight on the standard diet.

"I hope this study will rekindle interest in using diet changes first, rather than prescription drugs," Dr. Neal Barnard, president of the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine, which helped conduct the study, told a news conference.

An estimated 18 million Americans have type 2 diabetes, which results from a combination of genetics and poor eating and exercise habits. They run a high risk of heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and limb loss.

Barnard's team and colleagues at George Washington University, the University of Toronto and the University of North Carolina tested 99 people with type 2 diabetes, assigning them randomly to either a low-fat, low-sugar vegan diet or the standard American Diabetes Association diet.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has found that Americans don't get nearly enough fruits and vegetables in their diets.
After 22 weeks on the diet, 43 percent of those on the vegan diet and 26 percent of those on the standard diet were either able to stop taking some of their drugs such as insulin or glucose-control medications, or lowered the doses.

The vegan dieters lost 14 pounds (6.5 kg) on average while the diabetes association dieters lost 6.8 pounds (3.1 kg).

An important level of glucose control called a1c fell by 1.23 points in the vegan group and by 0.38 in the group on the standard diet.

DROPPING DRUGS

A1c gives a measure of how well controlled blood sugar has been over the preceding three months.

In the dieters who did not change whatever cholesterol drugs they were on during the study, LDL or "bad" cholesterol fell by 21 percent in the vegan group and 10 percent in the standard diet group.

The vegan diet removed all animal products, including meat, fish and dairy. It was also low in added fat and in sugar.

The American Diabetes Association diet is more tailored, taking into account the patient's weight and cholesterol. Most patients on this diet cut calories significantly, and were told to eat sugary and starchy foods in moderation.

All 99 participants met weekly with advisers, who advised them on recipes, gave them tips for sticking to their respective diets, and offered encouragement.

"We have got a combination here that works successfully," said Dr. David Jenkins of the University of Toronto, who worked on the study. "The message that we so often get with diet is that it is no good because nobody follows it for very long."

Dr. Joshua Cohen, George Washington University associate professor of medicine, said everyone diagnosed with diabetes is told to start eating more carefully.

"That may be among the hardest things that any of us can do," Cohen told the news conference.

The vegan diet "is at least as good, if not better than traditional approaches," Cohen said.

Vance Warren, a 36-year-old retired police officer living in Washington, said he lowered his a1c from 10.4, considered uncontrolled diabetes, to 5.1, considered a healthy level, over 18 months. "My life is much better being 74 pounds (34 kg) lighter," Warren told the news conference.

How I Cured Myself of Type 2 Diabetes

http://theveganvoice.org/veganism-voices/how-i-cured-myself-of-type-2-diabetes/

I was born in 1955 on an island in the middle of the Atlantic in the Azores, a beautiful archipelago of nine islands that is part of the Portuguese government. Life on the island was very quiet and isolated from the rest of the world. Our diet consisted of grains, legumes, vegetables, fish and pork. When I turned 13 my parents decided to come of the US to give me a better life and opportunities that I did not have on the Island.
Life in the US was definitely very different than life on the islands, meat and processed foods were abundant and we now could have red meat every day. Back on the island we only had red meat as a celebration, specifically a catholic feast only held a few times a year. Diabetes was predominant on my mother’s side of the family, most had this affliction much later on in life.

As I turned 49 years old during a visit with my doctor he told me that my sugars were high and that I needed to control my diet. Not knowing what he meant, since he did not explain it, I felt that I would cut out the donuts and things would get better. I had gone from 125lbs when in my 20’s to 165lbs. Four months later, December 23rd 2004 my doctor decided that I was not controlling my diet properly (I guess the cutting out the donuts didn’t help) and he diagnosed me as a type 2 diabetic, plus some other ailments such as a fatty liver, enlarged prostate, etc. He prescribed Metformin to be taken two times per day. My question to him was, “What can I do to educate myself about Diabetes in order to better control it?” He told me of a program at a nearby hospital funded by insurance companies and run by dieticians. I enrolled in the program. It was educational, they encouraged eating more protein to lower high sugars, they also encouraged more exercise and eating less white flour, etc, etc.

After following this regimen I visited my doctor. I always had a blood test prior to my visits to discuss my progress during the visit. My A1C was up and he prescribed more medication, Avandia twice daily and Lipitor to lower my Cholesterol. Needless to say this did not make me happy. I hated taking pills and I started to look into curing myself, including scanning the web for solutions, I found a few doctors promoting their supplements such as Dr. Mercola but nothing worked. The search continued into 2007, I was reading books such as “The Secret”, “The Law of Attraction”, etc. One day at work I was telling someone that I had finally made up my mind and my goal in life was to find a cure for type 2 Diabetes. I did not accept this disease.

A few days later, at the end of August 2007 on my way to work, listening to XM radio, I tuned to the Oprah station and Dr. Oz was interviewing Dr. Neal Barnard. Dr. Barnard was promoting his book “Dr. Neal Barnard’s Program for Reversing Diabetes”. It caught my interest and I turned up the volume. He was talking about this Vegan thing as a way to reverse Diabetes. What he was describing made sense to me. The most important thing was that he was not promoting a product. As a matter of fact, he disclosed the secret. I got to work very excited and told my colleague that I had found the cure.

This happened on a Friday and I devoted my weekend to researching this Vegan diet, what I found out was not good, giving up all animal products. Wow, what would I eat?
I made a commitment to try this Vegan diet for 4 months. It started to work almost immediately. My sugars started to drop, my energy levels were thru the roof, my weight was down, I felt great, and I started to eliminate my medications one pill at a time. By November I was living without medications and decided to make an appointment with my doctor. It happened to be in January 2008. As always, I went for the blood test first. A week before my appointment I received the test results… my A1C had gone from a 6.5 with medications to 4.9 without, and my cholesterol was down from over 220 to 146. This was the first time that I could not wait to see the doctor.

My appointment day finally came; I sat nervously waiting for my doctor to walk in. He walked in, checked the chart, compared it to previous pages, and turned to me and said “This is incredible control!” I said “Yes Doctor, especially when I no longer take medications”. He reached back to find the stool. I think his legs were buckling and he said “What is it that you are doing?” I told him that I was a Vegan. He thought that it was fantastic and reminded me that this was adding years to my life. I told him how I liked adding years in the middle not the end. I suggested he tell his Diabetes patients, he said that it was too extreme and they would not do it. I continued to see him another couple of visits and all my other numbers were continuing to improve also.

It has been the best three and half years of my life I am celebrating my 56th birthday in two months, I now weigh 130lbs and I feel more energetic than I can ever remember. I have become a passionate promoter of eating a whole foods plant based diet. I love being a Vegan

And i love being a vegetarian and bash low life meat eating losers...:oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo::oIo:

Re: How I Cured Myself of Type 2 Diabetes

I cured my diabetes 2.
This is confirmed by my doctor.
My blood sugar is now reduced to 5.4 (above 6.1 is insulin insensitive = diabetes2)

How did I do it.

1. Stop eating all foods with hydrogenated fat (also known as trans fats). It is man-made.
2. Get your fat from a fist of walnuts per day.
3. Eat the walnuts for 7 months to replace the man-made fat in your cell walls with natural fat.

Reason:-
Hydrogenated fat is modified fat which has an extra hydrogen atom added to it, to prolong food shelf life.
However, you insulin expects “natural fat” around every cell in your body for the past 4M years – evolution!
So Insulin is “confused” by the new molecular structure of the fat membrane around you cells.
By replacing the “man-made” fat by natural fat (from walnuts) over 7 months you insulin works as intended , opens the cell wall and lets the sugar in to be consumed as energy. Done.

New York state will probably ban all food with hydrogenated fat this year 2012. (They were first to ban smoking!)

Caution: Manufacturers have negotiated agreement with the food authorities to NOT show hydrogenated fat on packaging if it is less than 0.05%. So beware and dont eat any food that has long shelf life (snacks, cookies, etc) including the oil used for fries in your local fast food outlet.

If one ignores the problem & keeps on following the lifestyle that led to the problem insulin injection may be necessary. Diabetes is dangerous & will cause lots of problems e.g. circulation problems will lead to problems like heart attacks, amputations,...

It's easy to control/prevent: losing weight & include regular exercises, avoiding processed foods, avoid high glycemic index foods like white rice, potatoes. Include more anti-oxidants in your diet.

Re: How I Cured Myself of Type 2 Diabetes

Eating meat has nothing to do with diabetes.

Ingesting too much carbohydrates and not exercising causes that. Carbs that aren't used up to produce energy gets converted to sugar.

Some people (especially the women) have a sweet tooth and love their ice cream, muffins, cakes and desserts.

Another reason for diabetes rise is high stress levels. Singkieland is one of the stressful places to live. Work, travelling to work, family, etc etc

Problem probably caused by the combination of high fructose syrup, genetically modified wheat, refined foods, engineered oils, preservatives, .......etc. The americans are the biggest culprits. They started messing around with the food supply chain & unfortunately we are all paying the price.
