The largest council of the People's Action Party (PAP) Policy Forum has been elected, and its chairman is Business Times (BT) journalist Malminderjit Singh.

Mr Singh, 33, is a member of the party's Kebun Baru branch. His council, voted in two Saturdays ago, comprises 25 members of different ages and professions, ranging from enterprise to law to financial services.

The number of members is more than double that of the last council of 11, reflecting greater interest from party members to be a part of the forum, said the PAP on its website and Facebook page yesterday.

The new council will lead the programming and engagement efforts of the eight-year-old forum, which was set up in 2004 to help rank-and-file members better understand the policy-making process and engage party leaders on national issues.

Some things have changed since the opposition has made gains in number of votes and seats won.

However some things won't change until the PAP is out of power for at least one 5-year term. This is one of them.

Frankly nothing of substance has changed. When Ang Hak Seng was appointed I knew that the apology was not sincere. The controls, the links and hooks with various entities remain. The only thing that will change are minor features of politically bad policies. Permits, quotas, etc will be reduced. Prices of HDB flats will drop but all the people will remain and my guess is that more will be put in nearly all key organisations to sway view and opinions.
