Trees get uprooted in strong winds the world over. It's part and parcel of nature.

i've never seen the Parks people check the condition of the trees or soil so it is no wonder the trees get uprooted so easily here even when the winds are not that strong compared to elsewhere.

You can't be running checks on everything. Life has inherent risks. Having a tree fall on you is one of them. The odds are remote and people are far more likely to be killed in a road accident or slipping in the shower and breaking their heads.

Those who want zero risk should kill themselves at the earliest opportunity. Nothing can kill or injure you once you're already dead.

Tree management in Singapore is big time and they have a long history and a proper management structure, Old man started this long time ago and has had a personal interest. Tree are carefully selected and planted around the island when development takes place. They also carefully inspect and manage them. There are a big pool of arborists within NPA and believe me the setup is heavy and built into the country's landscape structure. There are people also carefully monitoring the old and limited species in the Bukit TImah and various reserves. Turf management is another thing that they are into.

No matter how you cover this, there will odd one that will fall and as Sam said you see this everywhere around the world. In some countries, there are even seasons where large limbs fall of the main tree and crush cars.

It is the fault of the tree, it never grew up properly & didn't take in the nutrients given free by the PxP & the fault of the driving instructor, thunderstorm still bringing out his student for a drive...it is our fault never theirs..it is God fault's for allowing the tree to fall...& since it is God's fault...or nature the other will argue...no need to pay..then it is back to it is our fault!

Yes Act of God. Floods that often occur in Singapore also Act of God, according to Mafia Mentor Lee Kuan Yew.

its an act of nature as long as it drops on a peasants head. as soon as it drops on a minister or his family, its an act of gross negligence.

If it drops on any of its minister or his family, a Committee of Inquiry will be conducted on why no preventive measures were taken on old and senile trees to fall.

The victim - named by a colleague as Mr Jason Cheong, 25 - had been in the front passenger seat, with his student, Ms Marliana Sumarno, 34, at the wheel when the tree was apparently uprooted by a strong gust of wind.

wow, she is so lucky, she should buy 4D, toto or both, as for the driving instructor, if he choosen volvo or saad, then he will still live. Very unluck to be hit by tree. It is like opposite of winning a lottery.
