SINGAPORE: The Singapore government will make a contribution of S$50,000 through the Singapore Red Cross to support China's disaster relief efforts following Saturday's earthquake in Sichuan.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has also written to Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to convey his condolences to the people and government of China.

Mr Lee said he is saddened to learn of the earthquake that struck Sichuan on 20 April 2013.

Mr Lee said he visited Sichuan just last September, and was "deeply moved to learn first hand of the hardships that the people in Yingxiu experienced during the 2008 earthquake, and inspired by their fortitude in rebuilding their lives".

He said it is unfortunate that another major earthquake has struck Sichuan again.

Singapore stands ready to assist those affected by this tragedy, said Mr Lee.

He added that he is confident the people of Sichuan will overcome this tragedy with resilience and determination.

$50,000 is a token amount.

To China, $50,000 is an insignificant amount!

Following a devastating earthquake that struck in Sichuan, China over the weekend, Apple has donated 50 million RMB or approximately $8 million to affected victims.

In addition to the donation, Apple has also updated the front page of its Chinese website to express its condolences and to offer schools in the area new Apple devices. Tech In Asia has a translation of the message:
At this difficult time, our hearts are with the victims of the Sichuan earthquake. Aside from the cash donation to help the affected people to tide over their difficulties, we are committed to providing new Apple devices to schools in the disaster area, and Apple employees in the locality are on stand-by at any time to help.
Donations during disasters are not uncommon for Apple, with the company previously offering relief money to victims struck by tragedy on several occasions.

But we have already made a significant donation in SUZHOU, even APPLE cannot match...each of us contributed a portion of our hard earned money...APPLE donation is nothing...the Citizens Of Singapore, are the most generous.

Simple fact is, China do not need our money, $50k is a token of our sympathy. However for countries which are known as cradles suicide bombers and terrorist, they are entitled to exactly zero sh!t given to their sufferings.
