I always enjoyed their statements where they announce a complete u-turn on a major policy. They give the impression that they just took over the government last week and knew immediately that it was a wrong policy and acted immediately. These fucking policies were set by the same government led by same party and the same PM. Not a single hint of contrition, remorse or sign of regret. How about a simple expression of sorry.

The HDB has controlled housing for 80% of homes in Singapore since the early 60s, before merger, during merger with Malaysia and after independence, the only other country other than North Korea and therefore had absolute control of the price including the resale market as their regulations over purchase and sale still was governed by them. Everyone in the property market knew that raising HDB price would allow private properties to rise and everyone in Cabinet would benefit from it.

You know what, IMHO we should refrain from suggesting solutions for LEEgime. Pinky and his ministars are already the world's highest paid politicians. You can be sure that you will not even get 5% of Pinky's total remunerations for your ideas.

What should we do then? The opposition shall wait till the date of the next general elections is set to announce their solutions to the current and future problems.

A thought came to my mind a couple of days back on why they are insisting on an ever increasing HDB prices. Here goes;

They probably know that our CPF money is either gone or insufficient for us to retire in and is worried that if it goes on, SG will be in deep shit when the entire nation does not have enough. The only way to mitigate this is to increase our wealth and housing being the biggest assets most SG will ever have, it is the fastest way to resolve this in the mid term for the Baby Boomers.

However, it seems like a good plan on paper, but when they implemented it, it spiralled out of control and now they are stuck between a rock and a hard place.

Khaw is not clueless. The issue is deciding who they want to serve, the rich or the masses. At the moment, almost all policies are geared towards the rich, and incidentally all senior civil servants and ministers belong to the rich.

For housing to be affordable to local masses, the market must be protected from PR and foreigner buying. But doing so will put downward pressure on condos and property investments of the rich. So the best khaw can do is to hold prices at current level. The damage was done over the past twenty years, and LHL is one of chief architects of current situation.
