more like bacterial than viral. every sinkie is recommended to do a quick breath test for h. pylori. cheap, quick and effective. if positive, ask doc for a 14-day combo anti-biotics prescription. sg docs do not pro-actively seek out h. pylori infestation in your tummy. the infestation, if prolonged, leads to ulcer and subsequently to stomach cancer.

can be anything from contaminated water to fruit to vege. :p
most likely from fish sauce as a dipping sauce or prawn paste as dressing for rojak.
doc says in south east asia, most likely improperly washed vegetables, cut fruit left out in the open, or fresh water seafood that is not thoroughly cooked.
