Irish Physiotherapists in Singapore Hospitals

Met someone who told me that about these Irish girls in Alexandra Hospital and chat with others revealed that we have people from US, Australia, UK, NZ, India, Philippines etc in the hospital system who have taken up nearly all the posts associated with para-medical care from medical scientist, sonographers, medical technicians, radiographers, various types of therapists, specialist care etc. Also heard that these people were provided with subsidised rental on entry.

These are quality jobs with requisite skill sets and with university degrees. These are jobs that can see the local vocation holder thru retirement as it is real job and with an ageing population, highly desirable and in demand. Don't tell me these too like nursing are classified as low value.

What happened to our education system. Why are we churning out kids from ITE, Poly with business studies, media, PR, and all these fluffy qualifications when I am sure most of them can be trained to do these jobs. They are now in the PMET category and easily replaced. There is no barrier to entry. No formal qualification to get in the first place.

We pay the highest salary to the cabinet and we are in this dire situation we. What the hell have the various Ministers of Education over the last 25 years done. Get the impression they spend more time with EDB allowing commercial schools and foreign universities to set up operations here to cater for 3rd world citizens to send their kids to study here. Our own kids are neglected. And we are proud to be noted for being a major regional educational hub. Seems like EDH did its job but not the rest.

The present propensity to employ foreigners at the expense of Singaporeans is going to have a huge effect in the future

It's not just the education ministry, it's the culture, parents as well. Most parents have no idea what these medical personnel do or even how crucial their jobs are. Their respond would be more like " tan Bo jiat lah". Every job, work can be worth something of value. From the garbage truck driver to the high powered lawyers. It's just how society sees it. By the way, without garbage removal, society cannot function. Without an understanding, passion to the work you do, you cannot do a good job of it. This is something you don't learn in school. At least not in Singapore .

Agree on the culture but if the local universities do not have the foresight to offer these courses in the first place, it will not be considered by parents or even students. These are vocations that have been established in the West before Singapore became independent.

Its also the role of government to educate the people on the importance of vocations that should be a foundation of the social structure. we have been focusing on the traditional professions such as doctors, lawyers, engineers etc that the rest seems unimportant.

The other thing that bugs me is that you need straight As to do pharmacy when an O level student who goes to UK, OZ does a foundation year, can get into pharmacy in their Universities and then come back here and practice. Should not more places be offered.

Cunning manipulative bullying snake, stop pretending again to be concerned for ordinary singaporeans.

You didn't approve of CSM's candidacy either and that was certainly nothing to do with chances for singaporeans.
Unless you were upset that he could do it but you couldn't. Fucking coward.

This is not the usual case where cheap labour replaces local labour. This is not the usual Indian, PRC, Pinoy situation.

There are little or no Singaporeans trained in these skill sets. Note they do not come from Mumbai, Shanghai or a province from the Philippines. These vocation holders come from the US, Ireland, UK etc. these are 1st world countries. Singaporeans should have been trained in this and it is known skill set of value.

We are talking about Ang Mos and their jobs in Singapore. Ever heard of an Ultrasound?

The Ang Mo who is fucking your wife? Ever heard of a condom?

Newbies and regulars, a warning about internet moniker scroobal who is always trying to manipulate you:

A long long time ago and in a land far far away
A boy started a forum for folks to have their say
It’s meant for the common man a place for all and sundry
He tried to think of a good name and finally thought of sammy

A pathetic coward from the elite wanted to say his piece
Too scared to appear in public this place to him was bliss
His chosen nick was scroobal a name now known to all
It would be fine except it didn’t say that he was missing one ball

He claimed to be a know-it-all and he would name drop daily
His behaviour as seen by most was that of a manipulative bully
Arrogance was his forte and he was not beyond deceit
If you wanted him to like you, you had better lick his feet

Disagree with him one time and he would never forget you
Tyrants like him would never allow you to have your point of view
This piece of shit would sometimes try to talk like the common man
But if you dared to go against him he would hit you with a ban

He would later lie about it and claim it was not him
It’s simply normal for this asshole to think that we are dim
He has a bunch of elite cronies who would follow him to the end
This bunch of sycophants insist on keeping their heads in the sand

Blind to the bullying and manipulation he continues with gutso
This egoistic charlatan scroobal has really reached a low
He has no self-awareness his upbringing is in question
What he needs from the rest of us is to be taught a severe lesson

He claims to be a defender of the common man but that is pure bullshit
Just mention anything about those elites and he’s chomping at the bit
His anger with the men in white may sometimes confuse us
Most likely he was discarded by them and thrown under the bus

This manipulative bully still runs the roost but this ditty is for fun
If you think of trusting him, remember he said “Khaw will not run!”
If this piece of scroobal shit does not realize he’s a bullying pest
The rest of us will simply have to think of ways to whip his fucking ass.

Physiotherapy is not the only subject absent from our universities / polys. Until very recently, there were no diploma level courses in optometry. Considering the number of people wearing glasses here, this oversight is shocking. And of course, the latest we hear is that the optometry course is gone again.

Good point. Makes sense when we have highest shortsighted children per capita.

You can say the same with IT and software development. Had the govt started much earlier on, we need not have so many fake IT Indians here now.

Sometimes, you just wonder: what are they thinking, esp. the EDB?

If I remember well, TJS came up with an Economic White paper or something like that, and he mentioned about more development into sectors like Geriatric Care industry...

Can someone confirm if he indeed had proposed that? If so, I guess he ( and those who helped him) deserved some credit.

Its also what they teach that is important. I remember a very distinct difference in computer science and IT. Singapore is more about using M$ toolsets versus programming techniques.
