In a lot less words, his policy, of whatever quality, will work. But it will work only if circumstance and the people are compliant. Effectively, Lee has managed to shift the blame of potential policy failure entirely to the people, all with a smile without them even knowing it. The blame, implicit of course, is of inflexibility and of unchanging patterns of behaviour, ‘clearly’ culprit to a declining TFR. This political manoeuvre should be disconcerting to the average Singaporean for three reasons.

Firstly, the people are fed the guilt of being too difficult (of course, this is relative to the government’s overbearing demands), and in so being, are guilty of making necessary the dystopian measures they so despise. Secondly, the people are assumed to be incompetent, needing a helping hand towards understanding what ‘a better life’ is, which includes a lifetime of debt they call a BTO (Built-to-Order) flat, but which really is just unaffordable sex cubicles. Finally, this manoeuvre functions most deviously to pre-absolve his government from any undesired policy effects should the plan of action turn sour in the long run. What we have here is guilt manipulation, a dehumanising policy, and ‘my own ass first, people later’.

Let's see how long he can ignore the voices of Singaporeans. I can't wait to see his expression in GE2016. In fact, Singaporeans should stop debating with PAP with no ears and let our vote speaks for itself.

Between a leader with 1st class honors in Mathematics from Cambridge and an electorate which consist largely of ignorant heartlanders, it's pretty obvious where the fault lies.

In 1971, he was awarded a President's Scholarship and Singapore Armed Forces Overseas Scholarship by thePublic Service Commission to study mathematics at Trinity College, University of Cambridge. He graduated in 1974 with first class honours in mathematics and a Diploma in Computer Science (with distinction). In 1980, he completed aMaster of Public Administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University.

Between a colorectal surgeon and a 'N Level' student, there is no doubt too that it is the fault of the Punggol residents too, for not recognising a good man when they see one.

His Mee Siam with cockle is his honors we will never forget. He claimed he can summon rain too, with onion and chillie, certainly took the cake. His mathematics is best practiced on gerrymeandering of electorate and vote buying. Other than that, I have not seen what achievment he has attained.

In OZ/NZ it's called the "tall poppy syndrome". People don't like those who are smarter than themselves. They're willing to cut off their noses to spite their own faces.

argument ad hominem

Clearly running a country is not algebra. The trouble is, the ignorant heartlanders also know a thing or two about algebra nowadays, and are able to tell the difference.

Also, the word "leader" is egregiously out of place in that sentence "with 1st class honors..." He is just somebody with a 1st class honors etc.

Nope. People don't like arrogant, pretentious assholes - people such as Koh Poh Koon. Academic qualifications have nothing to do with it.

LHL and his PAP gang doesn't get it. They work for the people, not tell the people what to do. Come 2016, the people will send him packing. He and his hoodlums need to be fired. They have taken things for granted for far too long.

And the award-winning equation : Increase GST = help the poor.
