Highlighted in RED. Am I too sensitive to say that the order of the enrolment type shows a distinct bias?

First, RI wants the best local brains. (Naturally so.)
Secondly, she wants international students. (Naturally so, the wealth I mean.)
Thirdly, she prefers returning Singaporeans. (Naturally so. Rich and partly for political reason.)
Fourthly (& Lastly), she accepts the very those locals whom she claims will not be left out (herein aka victimised). Why are children who have been slogging in her birth country be placed as the fourth in line. (It's not in alphabetical order, mind you.) They are probably from not too well-to-do families! Which is the whole main point, is it not?

It is similar to my workplace. During the financial crisis, several key staff left for varied reasons. After 3-4 years later, they returned to the company in almost similar positions as before BUT quickly promoted. The very staff who slogged out for the company during the crisis were ignored. Likewise, native Singapore kids are not valued.

I like the new whistle-blowing policy of RI. May I blow the whistle now and request the RI Board of Governors to be transparent with the list of "donations" by parents whose children were/are in RI since it became an independent entity. Particularly the list of ex-RI parents and those who made it to the Notable Achievement list.

I believe Lim Soon Hock should be fully aware of how RI and other envious government schools used to envy ACS and Saint Joseph's for their rich parents' contributions (aka "goodwill gesture").

The saddening part is one of the richest heritage of our country has turned into a mechanism similar to commercialism, goodwill connections, political vehicle (more outwardly in context and content).

When RI & RJC merged, it turned into gold. Gold not of excellance but of monetary greed and pure despise. It is no wonder RI had despicable news coming out like the cost to attend a PTA event.

Yea, gone are the days when RI stood for something else - that despite how poor you are, if you are good, you will get admitted.

All that has changed because people like the new RI thinks that casting the net wider for the better endowed clients will guarantee that they get children who are better fed, better prep for schooling, better exposed to the world etc.

A kind of kiasuism. The new RI doesnt seem to want to make the effort nowadays - they just want to take in the best, or the better ones, knowing that the marginal effort to propel them to excellence is far less than starting with a student from a less endowed family. Shameful.

I remember how ACS was often unfairly targeted as the bad boy of Spore schools e.g. snobbery, materialism,... This is a problem in ALL elite schools including RI. It's just that the media has favoured RI.

These days, come from R A F F L E S means nothing. So many of these elite graduates end up in operations in banks and MLM marketeers.

I have always wondered why LKY sent his two sons to Catholic High instead of Raffles/ACS. At the end of the day, their command of the Chinese language doesn't seem fantastic.

Raffles alumni still dominate society simply because they are smarter and work harder than most people.
There have and always will be raflesians who don't do well in life, its just normal.
BTW, there is nothing wrong with MLMers. Its tough to make it up the ladder.

Never said it was easy. Just that it is a dishonourable profession. :)

you gotta be crazy! They sell stuff that people benefit from, how can it possibly be dishonourable?

I know of a few Herbalife MLM sellers. Its just a pyramid scam to cheat people with inferior product and top sellers become top sellers because they recruit many many other sellers that admire these top sellers. But in the end not many do well so they rope in family members that quit their respectable jobs under the illusion they will be top sellers. End up, whole family just wasting their life away.

I think you are just to sensitive to assume that the order of enrolement type shows a priority from top to bottom, with bottom being the least desired. Did you clarify with RI?

Herbalife products are actually very good. I use them myself. Tend to be expensive, especially in Singapore.
It is true that you will need to recruit n sell a lot in order to be successful and thats not easy, same for every business isn't it? Not dishonourable.

Herbalife Drops After Report of Law-Enforcement Probe
By Kevin Orland & James Callan - Feb 4, 2013 9:12 PM GMT+0800

Herbalife Ltd. (HLF) fell in early trading after the New York Post reported the supplement-maker was the subject of a law-enforcement probe and the target of multiple complaints filed with the Federal Trade Commission.

The shares dropped as much as 16 percent to $29.35 at 8 a.m. after closing at $35.07 in New York on Feb. 1. The Cayman Islands-based company tumbled 39 percent in the past 12 months amid allegations that it is a pyramid scheme.

Jan. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Desmond Walsh, president of Herbalife Ltd., talks about market reaction to the company's special meeting aimed at rebutting hedge fund manager Bill Ackman's claims that Herbalife is a pyramid scheme and "misunderstandings" about the company's business and distribution models. Walsh speaks with Stephanie Ruhle on Bloomberg Television's "Street Smart." (Source: Bloomberg)

Dec. 20 (Bloomberg) -- William Ackman, founder of Pershing Square Capital Management LP, talks about weight-loss supplement company Herbalife Ltd., his short position on the stock and his claim that the company is a pyramid scheme. Herbalife, which hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has said uses inflated pricing, misleading sales information and a complicated incentive structure to hide a pyramid scheme, is the subject of a law-enforcement investigation, the New York Post reported today, citing documents it received from the FTC. The Post also said the FTC provided 729 pages of complaints against the company in response to a Freedom of Information Law request.

Herbalife has repeatedly denied the allegations that it operates a pyramid scheme, saying it is a retail-oriented business that sells products with unique ingredients. Barbara Henderson, a spokeswoman, didn’t immediately reply to a voicemail seeking comment today.

When FTs came by the horde some years ago, we should expect this. 60% can't think straight.

My dear bro,

Please allow me to remind you that this is despite their having private tutors of the highest calibre. The 3 children of the Old Fart were coached in Mandarin Chinese and Malay.

Pinky's spoken English is just so-so. He couldn't even pronounce the word "culinary" correctly. And how long did he spend at Cambridge? LOL.....

Pinky is dyslexic

I think TS is overly sensitive.
That said, the good old days when education carries the pure intent of educating is gone.
I knew it was the end when the concept of independent school got started in the 80s. As far as i remember, Eugene Vijeysinga was the last principal of the good ole RI.

The enrollment type was like that when the Institution was founded 190 years ago.
-Local students- more local than you think actually. Malays only more like. The school was intended to educate the children of the court of Johor.
-International students- to educate the officers and functionaries of the British Empire in the ways and wherefores flora and fauna of these parts.
