1. For a Foreigner, Work Permit Holder not a Residence (not PR or Citizen) of Singapore to drive a car from West Malaysia to Singapore

Honda Civic - RM 120,000 estimated (SGD 48,192 estimated)
Daily VEP - SGD 20 Daily Toll Fee - SGD 1.20 Daily ERP charges SGD 5.00

Total SGD 26.20 which allow multiple entries into ERP road per day. Using a 52 weeks x 5 working days - 10 VEP free (no VEP for 1st 10 daily entries of the year) - public holiday (11 days) - annual leave (15 days) = SGD 5,842.60

2. For a Singaporean to drive a car, the Singaporean needs to pay

24th Jan 2013
Toyota Prius C 1.5 Auto 2012
Price: SGD 148,988
COE: SGD 91,010
OWM: SGD 22,923
ARF: SGD 22,923
Other Taxes: SGD 7,169
PRemium: SGD 4,963

Annual Road Tax: SGD 682
Annual Interest: Few hundreds to thousand of dollars

Moreover, the foreign registered cars are not hit by the high road tax even if they are beyond 10 years, do not have to be charged the high annual insurance or vehicle check / maintenance, no 3/4 petrol full tank requirement.

Why are Singaporeans paying for the roads and the infrastructure when foreign registered cars can pay much less?
