She contested in 2011 in the same constituency and got a credible 41% of the votes. Can she close the 13.5% margin? Can she knock off the medical doctor who joined the PAP only 3 weeks ago? Are Singaporeans ready to forgive the PAP as they did WP? Or did the AIM gang rape of Aljunied and the threat of a lawsuit have an adverse impact for the PAP.

Background:

Lilian is currently a Trainer with a private institution. She has been actively involved in both industrial and financial sales for the past 6 years. She graduated from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 1999 where she majored in Business Studies and went on to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree with Curtin University of Technology in Australia majoring in Sales & Marketing. From her years of sales experience, she had gained good communication, interpersonal and persuasive skills. She was both Polling and Counting Agent for the party during GE 2006, subsequently she joined as a member in June that year. In August 2006, was elected into the WPYW as an Executive Council.

In her first 25 years, she was staying in the Marine Parade GRC, and having shifted to the Ang Mo Kio GRC 3 years ago, she finally got a chance to cast her first vote. She helped out as a volunteer during the General Elections 2006. During the process of contributing her service, she realized the lack of information and wrong perception the public have with regards to the opposition party in Singapore. She believes that these need to be corrected and she also wants to create awareness and generate greater political interest among the women in Singapore.

Philosophy:

Lilian recognizes that women are receiving higher education and are playing more vital role in the country’s economic growth. Therefore, their voices, concerns and ideas should be heard and recognized. Therefore, she aims to encourage more women to come forward. The message that she wants to bring across to everyone is: “Until you spread your wings, you’ll have no idea how far you can fly.”

Lilian enjoys singing and making DIY fashion accessories in her past time. She is also a faithful supporter of the ‘REDS’, Liverpool Football club, since the early 90s.

After thinking about it for a while, I have decided that Ms Lee Li Lian is the longterm best choice for the Worker's Party.

Sure, if they put up Mr Gerald Giam or Mr Yee Jenn Jong, they will have a better chance (i.e. slightly more than 0%) of winning the constituency, but what happens in 2016? Presumably GG would go back to East Coast GRC while YJJ would go back to Joo Chiat SMC assuming it is still around, and LLL will be put back into Punggol East SMC. But how would she answer to the voters when they ask her why the Worker's Party had no faith in her candidacy in BE2013?

Ms Lee Li Lian may not be considered a high calibre candidate, but she has worked hard on the ground for the Worker's Party in Punggol East SMC. She more than deserves the faith that the Worker's Party put in her, and will put up a good fight. Whatever happens, she will be even stronger with GE2016 comes.

I want VW to win, or at least stand and do smethg.
this lee li lian is one lee too many in the House.
enuf urines in the urinal, time for the m&ds and shits to prove they can win in a smc

pinky power all de way.

With respect to the other individuals, I believe that LLL is a credible and hardworking candidate for Punggol East.
I hope she will be able to obtain more than 50 per cent or the highest number of votes amongst the several potential candidates.
Pray and hope that she will be elected the MP for Punggol East.

Fiesty woman! A little overbearing but what the heck. She can get the job done!!

Put in any donkey as opposition candidate will win the BE.

PAP is a bad brand today, doing so much damage to Singaporeans.

Old fart rules with threats, intimidations, harassments and control of press freedom to Singaporeans.

Bullies will have their days numbered. Can be 'beng' when he was young but one day this bully will grow old and frail and beng no more.

I had heard differently but perhaps bro Scroo information source is more up to date than mine.

If it is indeed LL, then Maurice will most likely want SDP to participate. It will be most interesting to see how an unknown with powerful credentials (eg PT) fares against a less impressive WP candidate.

Actually I was hoping for Michelle as they were not prepared to sacrifice Yee. I suspect that their primary focus is East Coast, the mother of all battles.

PT has to resign as he is civil servant and I don't think he would. I am sure he is one of the sensible ones telling the others not to enter the fray.

I don't have any inside info on PT but there are others with equally impressive credentials. Curiously many are from the medical establishment.

The hypothesis that is being tested is how a SDP unknown who speaks well and has powerful credentials will fare against a not so impressive WP candidate.

May the gods help us and punggol east if she is elected. I am a supporter of the WP, just not her. Purple cocks and balls to those who votes for her, ptui!

A person calibre should not be judged by how high his qualifications was. LHL did mention that meritorcracy is not about a person qualification or status, but the character and perserverence that counts. Look at all the scholars in parliament, they are so screwed and became the cause of many unpardonable problems this country faces today.

Chiam See Tong is not a scholar, but well loved and served his duty well to the residents and became Singapore longest serving opposition parties. Moral of the story, if you can convince the heart and interest of the people, papers are just secondary. Bill gate doesn't need those paper to succeed in life, same for Jackie Chan and Lee Ka Sing. On the other side of the coin, Seng Han Tong and Lim Swee Say's calibre are overhyped. Give me any faithful person, I will vote for her anytime.

Lee Li Lian is the best candidate which shows Low Thia Kiang is a fair a non biased person.

Honestly, I would be very disappointed if WP send a candidate other than Lee Li Lian. She works the ground, fought her battle in GE2011 at Punggol East and did reasonably well. She is not the logical choice but the ONLY choice in my opinion. Imagine how would she feels if another candidate is sent? Surely a morale issue.

I hope she win. It will send message to Singaporeans that everyone can succeed in life regardless. At least, she is so much better than a childish Tin Pei Lin, don't you think so.

The problem lies with the demographics for PE. It is a young constituency with a relatively high incidence of highly educated graduate couples. While those that support Opposition will vote for LL in a straight fight, they will be drawn to a strong SDP candidate with better credentials.

Among those which are being publicly discussed, AYG and PT will be extremely attractive to voters in PE. If SDP fields them, I expect PAP to win and a photo finish between SDP and WP for 2nd and 3rd place. This will be a victory for SDP as it will establish them as being on par with WP. VW, while good, will suffer greatly in a 3CF. If he is the SDP candidate, then WP will maul SDP and there is even the chance SDP will lose deposit. If things somehow gets patched up and TJS becomes the surprise SDP candidate, I expect SDP to convincingly beat WP even if WP fields GG.

All other candidate who take part can expect less than 1,000 votes. They will lose deposit and be be finished politically for 2016.

I hope she win. It will send message to Singaporeans that everyone can succeed in life regardless. At least, she is so much better than a childish Tin Pei Lin, don't you think so.

I think this is the right decision. Fielding anyone else will mean the end of LLL's political career and is not fair to her.
We must not forget the woman factor. A WP female candidate vs a PAP male doctor. I expect this to add some votes to her.

There is only so low as you can go and Field Marshall (minus 10 ranks) Abdul ITE Salim falls way below that standard.

That said, it is true that there is no point comparing Bachelors with Masters and PhDs. After a point, the person has proved his or her intellectual and analytical ability.

A person calibre should not be judged by how high his qualifications was.
