Rolls-Royce agent did not fix flaw, says hotel tycoon
Jan 08, 2013

SINGAPORE - The alleged flaw cited by a tycoon in his S$1.4-million Phantom limousine has not been experienced by any other customer anywhere in the world, said the car's manufacturer Rolls-Royce yesterday. It made the statement as a hearing began in the High Court here over an alleged breach of the car's sales agreement.

Dr Koh Wee Meng, the man behind the Fragrance chain of budget hotels, is suing Trans Eurokars, the authorized agent of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars here, over the alleged failure to rectify loud thumping and whirring noises when the Phantom limousine moves out of a three-point turn.

In a statement yesterday, Mr Paul Harris, Rolls-Royce Motor Cars' Asia Pacific Regional Director, said that they had tested Dr Koh's car against their manufacturer's norms and against several other Phantoms and found it to be "operating well within specification".

"We have flown technical experts to Singapore to support the dealer's investigation into the complaints made by Dr Koh and have offered to send the car to our head office and manufacturing plant in the United Kingdom for further review," added Mr Harris. "We note that Dr Koh has had the use of the car for over four years and has accrued more than 45,000 kilometres during this period."

Dr Koh, who testified during the hearing yesterday, was asked by Senior Counsel Tan Chee Meng, Trans Eurokars' lawyer, why the tycoon failed to make any complaints, even though he sent the limousine for servicing on eight occasions between November 2009 and September 2011.

Dr Koh told the court that he made the complaint about the alleged flaw before November 2009.

He took delivery of the car on or around Dec 23, 2008.

"During these two years when I went back, I did not bring up this issue again because I knew that I had given the past one year, that is December 2008, to almost end of 2009, for Trans Eurokars to repair the thing, but it was not done," said Dr Koh.

The hearing, which has been fixed for seven days, continues. Amanda Lee

He stopped complaining for the past 2 years or so.
Now try to get one million bucks back, smelly smelly leaving his depreciation to be only $75k per annum.
And hired Davinder to frighten ang moh brand with Indonesian distributor.
