The best way to respond to critics is to present reasoned arguments based on factual statements. These arguments may have to be repeated over and over. But if they are credible and factual, Singaporeans, being a reasonable people, will eventually come to the right conclusion. The use of lawsuits will only stymie the debate and stoke the ire.

I agree fully with SDP. That is the trouble with the PAP. You can have a thousand national conversations every year it will still be the same. The PAP thinks that suing is the right thing to do when what the people want clearly is an explanation or arguments to support what AIM had done if they truly think so. Instead, they resort to legal action. So they want to be right in law but whether they have properly made a connection with the people, they never saw it. That is why their majority vote dropped 6 percentage points and they lost a GRC. Becos they cant connect anymore - emotionally, humanly, govt to pple. All they are interested in to lord it over. Time to cut another 6 pts next GE, and lose another GRC.

Exactly! Using or rather abusing the law has been the trademark and hallmark of the arrogant PAP.

I disagree with SDP. I think its a stupid idea. The reasons are very simple.

Defamations cannot be allowed into Singapore politics. If there are no consequences for defamation, it will open up wild and irresponsible claims and slander and there will ne no end to such a constant cycle of claims and counter claim that will surely poison the culture pf our country.

Nobody should be afraid of lawsuits if they can back up their words with facts and evidence.

That is true if the judiciary is impartial. Justice must not only be done but seen to be done

Lee Hsien Loong and PAP should withdraw their defamation suit against Alex Au and issued an open apology to Alex, Singaporeans and Aljunied Residents. PAP has no valid ground to issue lawyer's letter to anyone when there are questions remained unanswered by PAP. We need this govt to come clean with the people.

In fact it is, the judiciary is impartial. The singapore lrgal system is one of the best in the world.
So I encourage Alex au to take on the govt in an open trail for all to see. He simply can't lose.
