The new generation Chinese leaders are more educated then the "overfed" ones of yesteryears who use to sit in their comfy Chairs at the Great Hall of People and allow the peasants to work till death - in line with Communists Idealogy..

These leaders will NEVER act ruthlessly like what Deng did at the Tiananmen Square when he called out the PEOPLE's ARMY of the PEOPLE's REPUBLIC of CHINA to kill their very own PEOPLE.

The new leaders know that to act violently against these peaceful demonstrates will cast them in bad light in the eyes of the truly developed World nations.

They do not want to be seen as pariahs like Mugabe, Hafiz Assad and many other leaders which are on the verge of decline.

By NS, I presume you mean National Service, which mind you is a form of military training that Israeli women have to go through as well, but their lousy SINKIE female versions do not.

If you have read part one of Old Fart's autobiography or shall I say self-glorification, he claimed that it is because Goh Keng Swee thought that the country was in big enough trouble already and did not want his job as Minister of Defence to be made more difficult by having troublesome girls in the newly formed army.

I know you cannot spell "villian" properly, which is rather disgraceful if you had been a former Straits Times journalist. Hope it is not too much trouble to ask you to substantiate your bold but nonetheless bare statement that "NS has castrated SG guys" with some supporting arguments. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Just because you think you are beautiful does not make you so. I'm sure Snow White's step mother sincerely believes that she is the most beautiful woman on earth, but alas the magic mirror did not agree and had the guts to say so.

Besides, inner beauty is far more important that outer beauty, which can be conjured up with cosmetics and now the surgeon's scalpel as well. Think Woffles Wu and how many tai tais he made look "beautiful", but inside they were just as bitchy as before and no amount of Gucci handbags or De Beers diamonds will change these cold hard facts.

Any specimen that makes a big whoha about 5Cs is not beautiful in my book. I will gladly let the ang mors, ah nehs and what not have my rejects, the SINKIE females.

And as a kid, after having one of my numerous aunties read these fairy tales to me, I forgot the details but remembered the most important lesson of all, which is:

I got that message since young too, but not from fairy tales.
