My friend, Vanessa, has a Filipina maid. Her maid's work permit is due to expire soon. She realised that MOM had only given the maid a 22.5month work permit instead of 24 months. This wld deprieve her maid from working for another 1.5mths. Vanessa felt that it was unfair to her maid as she had paid her agent to work for 24mths.
Vanessa called up MOM and was told that it is normal MOM practice to give 22.5mths instead of 2years work permit. Vanessa was unhappy with MOM's reply and FaceBook TCJ. TCJ got a MOM Director to contact Vanessa. Credit to TCJ!
Upon query, the MOM Director explained that the 22.5month permit was because of insurance coverage. Vanessa looked up the insurance policy and found that what the Director said was untrue. The insurance covered 26months..so that was enough to cover 24months of work. She raised this with the Director and he admitted that the work permit could be extended to 24 months. He told Vanessa that her maid's permit wld be extended to 24mths.
But he missed the point..he just wanted to get Vanessa off his back and thought that by agreeing to extend her maid's permit, Vanessa wld be pacified. Vanessa explained that she went through all the trouble not just because of her maid. She said that MOM should correct a wrong policy of deprieving maids from working for 24months.
MOM seem not to know what they are doing!
Does anyone else face the same problem as Vanesssa?
Let's see whether MOM will right a wrong policy and from now on give 24month work permits
