A time bomb named COE

My car still four years till COE lapse. By then, if can't afford wont buy car... i can grumble, but at the end of the day it is i who did not make enough to buy a car. Who can i blame?

Learn from the whining losers here. It is always the PAP's fault.

another transport minister would lose his job surely - the coe policy is crazy now despite the many good points from public on how to change it. unless they already have plans to review coe policy but dont want to unveil it until near the next ge.

Don't worry for the LEEgime. They can always look for a replacement for the transport minister in the army. That's how Desmond Quack was hired.

To solve the issue of COEs, they need to curb the foreign trash inflow to reduce the number of cars on the road.

How come WP dare speak out about COE?

Because they do not have a solution to it - nobody does.

Peesai's limited space also means a limit (or ceiling) to the quality of life. A friend of mine in Canada, a waitress last year bought a brand new Honda Civic for herself. Another friend of mine, a division head, manager, in an international trading firm in Singapore, has to look at a used car when his car turned ten years old. That't the way things have become. The Wealth of Nations, or rather, their citizens.

Cheers!

That would not stop the COE prices from increasing. How many local Singaporeans graduate every year to join the work force? How many of these desire to own a car? It's the same story in every industrial country. People when they come of age, wants to own a car. Every city in the world is congested. Sg has no more land.

To curb the influx of foreign worker - either robotize the workplace, or get the locals to breed more. Based on the current econonic model of growth, there is no other way.

Cheers!

Just abolish financing for COE and impose a 60% LTV for the financing.

Non transferable will cause even greater problem bro. Not good idea.
Just pay total price 30% up front la. COE sure will go down one.

That's why require 30% down payment will do the trick cos young grass won't be able to afford.

Just ban financing totally then. That will do the trick. No cash, no car.

If Lta's genuine concern is traffic congestion, there are many other things they can implement instead of just Coe and Erp. Car pooling, improving bus routes etc..

The problem is Lta is happy to milk sinkies to sustain their own bloated existence (What a nice office they have in Tekka).

More importantly, sinkies are happy to be milked like cows.

The only thing PAP knows, when it comes to solving problems, is to either solve it using $$$$ and/or enhance it or legalise the problem. This aspect of solving problems can be done by the majority of S'poreans. No need to hunt for talent and pay millions. Can any bros here name me a problem the MIW solved without resorting to the means I pointed out?

No ministers in Singapore has ever lost their job due to incompetence, they only lose their job caused by no compliance, not to procedures or misconduct but to no sucking up to the leegime!

Losing jobs? One even got promoted to DPM.

That will be impossible in Singapore. Even underaged youth, retirees, unemplyed, even handicapped people in Sg have access to legal and illegal forms of financing. Credit is readily avaiable in Singapore. Don't ask me how, I am no financial wizard, but somehow, Singapore is cash rich. Almost weekly, I get calls, sms, pamphlets, asking me whether I want cash. No details need to be given even. Amazing.

Cheers!

The high Coe prices now is a direct result of mismanagement of car population during the years between 2007-09. Just like the FT policy. Coes and PRs were over issued without care for consequences.

Now singaporeans are paying the price.

"If Lta's genuine concern is traffic congestion, there are many other things they can implement instead of just Coe and Erp. Car pooling, improving bus routes etc.."

Remember when ERP first started it was $2.00 (whole Day) coupon display on wind screen
you can go in and out of city 10 times per day they don't care, they were car pooling point
where drivers can pick 4 passengers go into city FREE! it was so successful but LTA say
they lose income!! so they do away with CAR POOLING!! than they get smarter by the day
"Electronic ERP" go in go out YOU PAY (PAP)

Than LTA got greed they extend to area outside CBD...than got even GREEDIER
(hungry for MONEY) they extend ERP on CTE ppl going home to 1030pm, in the process
they increased the ERP prices, so going to the city can cost you $8.00 to $10.00. How
ridiculous can the PAP be??? LTA is all for OUT for MONEY if not than What??
No Porn Lui should be able to answer?

If you ban financing, cars will drop back to $40k. If cannot afford a miserly $40k, better don't drive.

I agree, if you can't come up with $100K cash to buy a car, don't drive. :D

Sorry I meant ban financing for cars totally. People without cash shouldnt drive cars. Economy won't go bust.

Then economy will collapse. Only dummy like you will think of such idea

Dear Frens,

I have said it b4,,,COE prices will never go down as its has become a revenue cash cow for the gahmen,,if coe go down,,gahmen get less money,,,and COE money is immediate earnings,,,COE become 200K means it get 200K in its pocket,,

the trick is if the revenue should be channeled into an efficient public tpt system,...more buses, more train, more lines etc which can be done,,but PAP will loose money if it becomes more efficient too,,public tpt is not about public but profit,,

So COE wont go down, Public tpt wont improve,,,cos gahmen revenue will be affected,,,
