Encyclopaedia Brittanica, National Geographic, Webster's, Time, Newsweek, Popular Mechanics, Discovery, Smithsonian, McGraw-Hill, not to mention the numerous dalies like New York Times, Washington Post and other specialized topics publications. With all these piblications and literary works, you still call USA dumb? You should start rubbing shoulders with a different bunch of apes.

As for US influence, look at the number of people who work for US corporations, the word globalization largely came about because of companies llike P&G, 3M, Boeing, And how many people over the world consider the following as staples - Subway, McDonald's, Starbucks. And as for culture, Rock and Roll, Rap, Jazz, Breakdance, Disco? Levi's? And our kids, they all know what are Hershey's, M&Ms, Snickers. Just to name a miniscule fraction of US innfluence, and what about Marlboro? Jah, take a trip to USA when you can, rent a car (its cheap) and drive across a few states, East. West, ot doen't matter, then come back and tell me what greatness is! It is no wonder that the US exerts influnence on the rest of the world.

China, Japan, India, Thailand, have all influenced neighbojurs in the past. But for the present, the behemoth is the USA. You will even find Starbucks in the Imperial Forbidden City!

But isn't the USA the kindest most fair entity in this world? China, know they are not the super power yet, maybe in another 20 to 30 years, at present more like regional power not global power in term of show of force comparable to USA.

What China now want is to make sure the motherland can protect it Territories, as some forummers mention here what happen in the past they don't want a repeat.

China are no NATO, they will only show you the result once it is done, just look at the landing of the j15, they do not have the experience they do not announce till it is done.

Strategically, if china's intention is south china seas, then aircraft carrier is not the right tool. It is like using a long rifle to fight in built up area. What china need is many destroyers and massive air to air refueling capability.

The aircraft carrier, although impressive is tactically very vulnerable. It is only suitable for super powers that have friendly ports of call around the globe. China's carrier need to sail around Japan or ASEAN before it can get anyway else. Once out of south china seas, it is practically a sitting duck with a very dangerous sailing path back to home base.

If use the carrier in south china seas, it is surrounded by air and sea bases in japan, taiwan and ASEAN that can support the most advanced USA weapons, including thousands of fighter jets, UAVs, missiles, submarines and whatever else the USA and allies have. It is like the final battle scene of lord of the rings trilogy, except there is no magic ring to decimate the enemy in an instance.

I don't think china is blind to this fact. But what drove them to the carrier route is probably partly corruption and partly to feed nationalistic fever. Nothing like spending tens of billions to build carrier battle group to get the gravy train going. After the carrier group is operational, china will sail it up and down its two major rivers to showcase to the inner cities its prowess.

But strategically i think this is a mistake because china has officially alerted all its neighbors of its aggressive intent with carrier group. Likely that China will henceforth face a lot more headwinds in many areas, including internationalizing the rmb, trade and maybe even purchasing of resources. The USA couldn't be happier with this premature display of power by china.

Hey yes that's correct commonsense. Yet what is the general consensus amongst people the world over about americans? They aren't too bright. Americans don't know much about world events and are only concerned about events that take place in their country and some of them aren't even aware of that. Have you seen the map of what americans think about the rest of the world? Whereby they think of say the entire region of africa is full of starving people and that south america is full of drugs. I can show you that map most likely drawn by an american if you have never seen it although i find that hard to believe. I didn't draw the map fyi.

Hi, you brought up an interesting point which reminds me of the USA SHuttle programme. Basically the Space Shuttle is a piece of shit that never worked as it was designed to do (cheaper space flights) and cost more than conventional rockets. But when the SOviets saw it, they view it as such a threat that they spends billions developing their own shuttle and it caused the deficits which help bring down the USSR.

That was the good thing of the space shuttle,,it brought down the USSR..now China is spending big on the Carrier and want to create some more,,but the carrier is no longer a practical weapon if u do not have the complimentors to support it, like friendly bases etc. And you need a huge fleet train to support the Carrier battlegroup operations,,which the USA is damn good at and it serve them well in WW2...

Remember many moons ago when the USS Carl VInson came to Spore? how much food they took to supply the carrier?
