SINGAPORE - A 47-year-old man suspected to be involved in loansharking activities was arrested.

On Sunday evening, a resident spotted a man scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the wall of a residential block located along Hougang Ave 3 and called the police.

The suspect was later arrested and loanshark-related items, such as various cans of paint and coloured markers were found in his possession and seized.

Preliminary investigations showed that he is a debtor-turned-runner who carried out loanshark harassment by splashing paint at debtors' units and scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on walls.

The suspect will be charged in court for loanshark harassment.

If found guilty, first-time offenders may be jailed up to five years, fined between $5,000 to $50,000 and receive between three to six strokes of cane.
