A convicted terrorist, identified as Roki Apris Dianto, escaped from the Jakarta Police detention center on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m., by wearing a burqa (a face-covering veil worn by Muslim women) police spokesman said.
“Tuesday is the visiting day. We assume that the prisoner blended in with women visitors when he escaped the detention center,” National Police spokesman Ins. Gen. Suhardi Alius told reporters on Wednesday.
According to Jakarta Police deputy chief Brig. Gen. Sudjarno, there were 13 police officers on duty at the detention center, three of which are members of the National Police counterterrorism squad Densus 88.
“The incident was caused by negligence, the police are currently questioning the police officers,” Sudjarno said.
He said that the police were also still questioning 23 women who visited the detention center on Tuesday.
According to Sudjarno, Roki was arrested in Klaten, Central Java in 2010, and was sentenced to a 6 year prison term in 2011.
