The Washington Times has reported quoting a source that the U.S. Central Command is confident it can either significantly degrade or destroy Iran’s conventional armed forces in 3 weeks. The plan is to use both air and sea strikes without engaging the enemy forces on the ground. Actually it was less than 3 days. Once air superiority is established it only becomes a matter of time before the enemy will be defeated. Air superiority was established on the first two days. Iran couldn't defeat Iraq in their epic Gulf War. The Iranians will lose as much money if they close the Hormuz. The Saudis and other oil exporting countries have set aside months of extra oil in case Iran goes to war and the Hormuz sees slow traffic.

The Iranians do want a war but a quick one. The autocratic government needs to build nationalistic fervour again as its citizens have gotten bored with the government's policies and years of sanctions. Should war break out the Iranians need to end it quick and be able to show that they somehow won. If the Iranians make the mistake of destroying oilfields and aircraft carriers then they will have dug themselves into a deep hole for which there will only be one result and that is a massive destruction of their nuclear, military capability and economic capability for at least 10 years and this is something that their citizens will not accept and there is a chance of a huge revolt.
