I noted that Teo CH's mother passed away recently. Her maiden name was Tan Suang. According to the stories, TCH's father Teo Cheng Guan was working at OCBC at that time and met the mother Tan Suang there. My question is whether Tan Suang is related to the Tan Chin Tuan family that owned OCBC at that time. Don't forget that Teo CH's grandfather Teo Beng Wan was also an executive of OCBC. Obviously, the Teos were known in OCBC, and being a traditional chinese run business, is it not possible for the Tans to marry of their daughter or niece to Teo Cheng Guan? In the end, he ended up being chairman of the bank, which is a high acheivement for a non Tan family relative, unless of course, his wife Tan Suang was a relative.

Usually setting up a foundation is used to tax shelter your income. All the rich people do that, and yes, many like Tan Yu were big time crooks. If they don't do that, estate and capital gains tax will kill them.The foundations are also controlled by their relatives, in this case TCT's daughter. Tan Chin Tuan and Kwa Siew Tee are descendents of Malacca Baba gang and later became members of the Emerald Hill gang. Lee and Teo are part of Tan Kah Kee Fujian Bukit Gang. TCH is from Tan Kah Kee's wife' side. OCBC is a merger of a number of banks. They are not blood related but late generations have bloodlines running up to the following 4 headmen.
