In case anyone thinks that the video of an elderly couple that we posted is one of those rare incidents that even the best of systems cannot prevent, we present another video that was recorded at the same time the elderly couple was making their arduous journey home.
In the short span of about half-an-hour and in the immediate vicinity were several instances of poor people collecting cardboard and rummaging through dumpsters. How many more are suffering such circumstances?
It is important that Singaporeans realise the extent of the problem of poverty and income inequality in our country.
The SDP continues to focus on this matter because it is the PAP’s policies that have caused such imbalance in society and misery for many in the lower-income group.
While the PAP lavishes its attention on the super-rich, Ministers included, giving them huge tax breaks like abolishing the GST for the purchase of investment-grade gold, it refuses to do the same for basic everyday necessities that the poor depend on for survival.
People like those shown in the video below live under the crushing burden of poverty because of unthinking and uncaring policies of the PAP.
While it is important that we help those in need, it is equally important that we work to change the policies that bring about such misery. When we are trying to dry the floor, it helps to turn off the tap first.
This is why the Singapore Democrats propose increased spending for the needy in our Shadow Budget, this is why our panel of medical professionals drew up the SDP National Healthcare Plan and this is why we are working hard on our housing, economic and education alternative policy papers. We must level up society.
But reforming the current system remains a huge undertaking and we need all the support from you, our fellow citizens, to achieve success. Join us, volunteer, donate to the cause. Support the one party that stands up and speaks out for our people. With your support, we can make our vision of a more just, more equal and more caring Singapore a reality.

How come we don't receive foreign aid from OECD donors then?

These videos will only serve to reinforce the sinkie belief that the poor deserve to be poor on the basis that they are weak and infirm.
